If it's any sort of decent restaurant, they won't be bitchy to those who want to dine alone.

If they are, they have no class.

Dining alone is an art form. It's been part of "restaurant culture" for many years. Restauranteurs know this.

"Oik" is a British slang word for "obnoxious teenager".

My mom is the only person I usually go out to eat with. I don't like going alone mainly because then I have to pay for the food.

Fast-food places aren't so bad, but the casual dining restaurants we normally eat at are expensive. Whenever I've gone alone it was usually only to order the dessert. And then you're supposed to tip the servers. I never know how much I'm supposed to tip because I suck at math. I know it's supposed to be more than 10% only because of that Weird Al song "Young, Dumb, and Ugly" where he sings about what a bad dude he is because he only leaves a 10% tip.

You could carry a calculator, and put a note on it:
Enter amount
X
1.15 (for a 15% tip)
= (gets the amount to pay)

I once got caught out badly in the US. Here, wages are supposed to be sufficient. However, as a cab driver I later learned that waiters and waitresses are the most consistently generous tippers themselves. As a masseur, getting high tips was the most positive feedback I got.

It's actually not that difficult to calculate in your head. For example, if your bill is something like $43.66, it would be $4.36 and then add approximately half that, so an extra $2.18. Though to make it even easier, just round up. So, round to $4.40, and then it's $2.20, so $6.60. The most you'd pay with this method is an extra 5 cents.

Bring a small notebook and keep it on the table beside the plate. See if it improves service :) Make the occasional note.

I go not to food-houses, for my food I wish that it shall be clean. I can buy in a can or box food at market, though I myself rather it make.

Besides what i have stated earlier, i also dislike eating in front of people... I have got a little better over the years but still dont like it... There is often WAY too much going on around me and can be very overwhelming...
Am surprised to see quit a few that dont have issues with it despite, people, light, noises, emotions, and other sensory issues are prevalent in such circumstances. But also nice to see that many can handle such experiences in an enjoyable fashion. It is rare that i do but there are times i have to and just try to cope with the situation often in a rather quit/internally uncomfortable manner.

if i'm hungry, why not?

i never got why my mom always criticized me for not being human enough, because i don't care much about the social significance of eating with people. she thought i didn't understand it but i do and always have..why is it so hard to be understood?

i like to eat with people when we get the food and or cook together, we eat together. i like going out for food with friends sometimes too. but it's not a requirement for going out to eat.

I have issues sitting in a crowded restaurant but it's just something I've learned to live with , I still get overwhelmed but it's just like a normal occurrence for me nowadays ( like breathing ) , I expect it , I fret about it , the feeling is the same but I can usually fix it by faking a bathroom break , smoke or getting some air.
