Chit chat or small talk, as it's otherwise known as, is utterly and completely mind-numbing for me. Repeating the same questions and repeating the same answers is something that I dread and repel at all costs. I'm unsure of the reasons but for me if the same words are kept on auto-repeat then it just isn't very intellectually stimulating. I suppose also that I'm simply afraid that my mind will become lazy and useless.

I guess I am of the school that conversation should always be as intellectually stimulating as possible and intelligent thought should always be exercised to the fullest in matters of conversation and the exchange of ideas and even feelings. I've been classified as being A-sexual so really the only thing that truly stimulates me is intelligent conversational interaction or even written interaction instead of sexual interaction.

The mind is a terrible thing to waste.

For me , and it's taken most of my life, but I've overcome the awkward silence in favour of avoiding the awkward small talk or chit chat. Small talk is just that repulsive to me and utterly and completely undesirable. Honestly I would rather do the typical Autistic bolt out of that situation rather than chit chat.

I'm not that great at chit chat once you get past the usual basics. I don't like awkward silences so usually say things I wish I hadn't , I am the worst person in the world at keeping secrets so things usually spill out in awkward silences.

One on one and face to face with family is generally tolerable. But chitchat over the phone has always been hard for me. I live far from my family and I’ve missed so much because i don’t do chitchat.

Yep.

I like chitchat more if it's someone I know.

I don't think many people like it but it serves a purpose in their eyes.

Small talk or chit-chat is very dull. I would much rather flee from the scene then having to answer questions mostly about status. I have a hard time understanding talking to someone and sharing information about myself especially if I am not ever going to see the person again. If I do reply from the small talk it usually stops at that level and does not go any deeper. I know some people value small talk, but I definitely do not.

It's about finding out where you stand in relation to others. I have no use for that.
