I don't care most of the time.

There really isn't any need to snark the OP. With that said, here are some thoughts.

I have a job. I have a family. I seldom get responses if I post anything. I pretty much know the reason and don't per se care. FB and other medias are cyber high school. I have about three friends on there that are the popularity queen type but it was for coordinating certain activities in the community. Facebook is my preferred mode of communication instead of phone calls. Do these prima donnas interact with me on a personal level outside of business? No and that is ok with me. I don't even follow their pages or make comments.

Facebook works for making hair appointments, dental appointments, just about anything as I don't like using the phone.

I agree that it's cyber high school.

There are the popular people having dozens and dozens or hundreds of likes, there are people who get negative attention (I do a lot, like "what kind of weird picture did you post?" etc., there are people who get bullied...)

I never thought of it like that but it's a great analogy

I’ve never used social media. I just don’t care enough to want to do it. People are urging me to do it, though, so I can make some friends.

I think the idea is for me to connect with old friends and acquaintances. I don’t wanna. LOL

What's funny is people thinking high school clique behavior is outgrown. Quite the opposite is true. It becomes even more sophisticated.

If you don't feel the urge, why do it?

I wouldn't mind contacting my old best friend from when I was a kid. He has a very common name. I suppose I can send 40 messages to people with the same name and location----but then I don't want to disturb the 39 who aren't this guy.

There's something to be said for making NEW friends, based upon what you are experiencing in life NOW. That is---if you feel the inclination.

I don’t feel the urge, but I wonder if it would be good for me. My therapist says that I don’t need as much of a social outlet as most people, but it would be good to have a support system of likeminded individuals.

I would possibly enjoy meeting people through activism of some sort. I’d be helping people and pissing off my parents at the same time. Win-win.

It's always good to make friends-----but if it's forced, then it's not good.

It does help if there is some sort of "common goal." Like in activism.

But I feel it's good to actually believe in the "cause," rather than just use it as an outlet for iconoclastic sorts of thoughts.

I don't derive any pleasure from pissing people off----but I always seem to piss them off, anyway LOL

Ah...such is life!

There's one "cause" which would be perfect for many on this Site: Animal Rights.

I don't really care about things like these, I don't take it personally.
I know a lot of people these days don't even use Facebook or use it very rarely, they only use Messenger to chat and on your phone you don't even need the Facebook app to use Messenger. Very few of my Facebook-friends actually update their timelines.

But if it bothers you a lot because they like other peoples posts but not yours and you never talk to them either then delete them... Or stop using Facebook. If you want to see your friends or family members photos you can send each other photos privately in Messenger, use Snapchap or Instagram.

Yeah at one time I looked people up on Facebook from my distant past. Sent some PMs which were not replied to. I didn't take it personally. I think too much time has passed in many cases.

The two friends on Facebook I do have from my hometown also have my folks and sister so not tickled with that. I don't have a need to friend family's friends on Facebook. It took moving out here to have my own friends.....

I was thinking feminism or LGBT.

I was just joking about wanting to piss my parents off although their very conservative beliefs frustrate me.

Yep....feminism would be suitable, at least.

Feminism and LGBT often go well together. Most feminists want everyone to have equal rights.

I can't argue with that. But women won't have equal rights in the workplace until we stop acting helpless around men.
