Leave Your Esteem Issues At Your Therapist Couch
I don't understand what's wrong with wanting praise. To me, the OP is making a big deal of nothing. If I receive praise then I know I'm doing the task correctly. What I don't like is criticism that is vague. If I'm told I'm being rude then can you tell me exactly how I was rude? Can you give me specific incidents and explain why that is rude to you?
I've nothing against praise in principle - didn't notice a lot of that where I worked - but I also don't like it unless I feel it's genuine, I feel compliments are overdone in some societies, and I wish they weren't, so that at least I'd be able to trust them when they do happen. Compliments sometimes also offend my sense of self-loathing, but I guess that's my fault and I hope to do better.
