Sorry. I will do that next time. I just hear people at my school using it as slang. They will say "I legit just.."

I hope I didn't sound rude and don't even mean to proscribe colloquial usage. In fact, adopting such "off-label" usages can help with group cohesion/friendships etc..

Being technically right isn't always socially right. Sorry about the lecture.

I'm remember when epic was used almost every time to describe something that was slightly surprising, glad that's gone. But now the parents are doing it!

“Epic” can mean “really, really cool.”

Not so fast ...

It maybe okay for him to use it offline IRL with his friends. But it might be a good idea if he did NOT use ultra hip lingo like that on a social website like this: composed of folks of every age and background, and from every corner of the Earth, half of whom only use English as a second language (and even that English is a formal type of English), and don't need verbal curveballs thrown at them. Everyone has to remember who their audience is when they speak. The WP crowd is more likely to laud you for clarity than to laud you for adolescent coolness.

When I wrote that I considered it a dichotomy... falsely, so your point is appreciated. I would feel bad if I encouraged "uncool" grammar at the expense of someone fitting in with their peers. As you pointed out though, there's room & reason for both.
