Yep.....it's a very "grabbing" stanza.

It's like the sea "grabs" you at high tide---and the images evoked by the sea "grabs" you, too.

in a nutshell it describes human nature and the world that it created. the poem is a plea to the better angels of our nature, that perhaps if only we stopped and gave things more thought, that we could, in the words of Louis Armstrong, make this world "a getter."

Yep. Pondering the lighthouses in the background of the ink ocean creates transcendence in me.

I'm not that knowledgeable about Ray Bradbury, unfortunately.

I've read a little bit of Fahrenheit 451-----but I haven't read the whole thing.

his work is imbued with poetic imagery. i'd suggest reading Fahrenheit as well as "Something wicked this way comes" to get the full picture of this aspect of his writing. "The Martian Chronicles" [aka "The Silver Locusts" overseas] is another. all have also been made into motion pictures. all are worth watching.

It's great that a science fiction writer was influenced by a Victorian poet.

I never lived with hate. Let alone self-hatred.

I used to live with anger instead.

Or anger evaporated into fart of air instead.

That's when the concept of 'normal people' became meaningless to me, and 'normal life' no longer equates to a happy life when I can have fulfillments of my own. That's my story.

Sorry for barging in, but I do sometimes wonder when do people move on... Even the OP and his anger.

I don't hate myself. It is probably because I have INTJ personality traits. Actually I like myself a lot.

living with self hatred, for me, requires zero extra effort.

furthermore, i hate almost everyone. not just myself.

:D hate :D is not morally inferior to :D love. :D
