Have I wasted my life for not going to concerts ?

If you go to big, indoor stadium venues the sound should be clear without distortion. You're lucky to have heard Pink Floyd and Dire Straits. I was lucky enough to see Bowie on one of his last tours.

One of the most memorable things I did was watch a movie night with three David Bowie movies in a row. I can only remember one "Cat People", There was another foreign film that played that same night from Germany about three teens in Germany who tried to make it to a David Bowie concert but for different reasons never made it. The whole movie had Bowie songs playing and everyone in the audience were signing along!

I don't remember the name of the movie even after googling but it made a massive impact on me as a teen because I always wanted to go to a Bowie concert but like the kids in that movie I never made it... great fun

No I haven't I seem to think its not as enjoyable if you don't have friends to go out with who like the music you like.

I wouldn’t say that’s it less enjoyable. In some ways, it’s actually better to go on your own as you can turn up at a time that suits you and you can leave whenever you want. You don’t need to talk anyone else around you either. You can just focus on the stage and the performers. Perhaps consider trying it sometime if there’s someone you really want to see.

No esp if you have any kind of sensory issue or just hate large crowds.

I don't go to concerts. I have been to a few but I don't regularly go to hem.

I do however love festivals but the ones I love are like lit fests and things like that. You get to go to a lecture without having to pay the fees of being a uni student. Yes you do have to pay fees but it's usually reduced if you're on disability pay. Some are even about neurodiversity or about my more academic specialist interests.

I've never quite grasped the concept of 'wasting life'. Some would cite those who spend all of their free time reading books as 'wasting their life', but what if such people enjoy reading books as opposed to going to concerts, or travelling around the world, or gardening, or whatever else.

It would seem, perhaps, that 'wasting one's life' simply means not being interested in the same things as the person who is making the accusation.

I know that's technically true but at the same time it made me sad when my dad who's an intelligent guy and probably on the spectrum started spending all his time watching TV instead of devoting himself to his hobbies and friends.

His mood picked up after he started going back to friends and started playing guitar again.

That's someone who 'had a life' before, though. It was a real indicator in a shift of mood when he was spending all his time watching TV. I'm the same with social media. It's a waste of my time and a mood depressant which I notice when I stop wasting so much time on it and start doing other things as well.

Almost all of what I've written to date would be considered more or less "classical." I'd like to pivot towards commercial songwriting to have a more viable chance of succeeding professionally with music.

...I went to rock/whatever shows quite a bit when I was younger...but not really now . At least one - maybe it's something of an internal theory/story and " sour grapes " for other reasons Idon't go, but...Now that I have the internal identity of "Aspie/Autie " an image in me is sort of " I'm a little Aspie and I don't like all that loud stuff "!
I thought you could mean classical music concerts, or...sort of really traditional folk music, or kind of musical theater-type singers - Say, Tony Bennett or Bernadette Peters - rather than " modern pop music/rock ".
I went to a fair amount of shows over the years - but I never went to any single show by a ' mega-rock/poo star ", I basically just went to bands that played theaters, at most, of clubs.
Yes, I was that " indie "! Schmindie . Not.
When I was 18 or so, I would've liked to see Kiss, or Springsteen, or the Stones'...but I was rather fatalistic, thinking " Ah, I'd never be able to get tickets anyway, out here in the suburbs " .

Well, that does sound better. Hmm, a jazz show sounds like fun. Do you go to those?

I went to a couple of jazz concerts when I was younger. I saw Herbie Hancock and the late Ornette Coleman within a year of each other. I was quite into jazz at the time and wanted to see some of the legends of the genre. I enjoyed both shows but I lost interest in jazz and went back to my main musical love of rock and metal. Recently though, I’ve become a fan of the saxophonist Kamasi Washington and I would like to see him live at some point. Check him out if you’re not familiar with his music.

I've thought about it but chosen not to because I feel they are situated too far from where I live (which is Rochester in Kent), especially if it was a gig at Reading. I've never driven there and might get directions wrong getting there and get lost.

Ever since the Bay City Rollers broke up, live music is pretty pointless...

But I can't even circle pit to the Bay City Rollers.

I normally prefer to listen to studio albums.

Though occasionally you'll find bands that are better live than recorded.

I much prefer seeing bands in small-ish venues now. Though that generally means it's a bit of a lottery whether they'll be any good.

Struck gold with the last two gigs prior to lockdown, as both featured artists who were (at the time) pretty well-known in the USA but virtually unheard of here. So reasonable ticket prices and small, friendly venues but also excellent quality.

The thing I really can't get into is live albums. They're like the worst of both worlds!

I mostly agree, but live-in-studio recordings don't bother me.
