anyone else not have just one special interest?
Birds... I am the go to person for anything bird in my family... I used to work with birds, I had an internship working directly with birds of prey, I taught about birds and did bird scientific research. I read bird field guides for fun. I eBird for fun, which is a bird tracking app. My interest has some side interests in learning the names of plants and animals too. Oddly as a kid I only wanted to know the names of the birds and other organisms, it wasn't until later I started learning stuff like birds sounds, other facts, etc...
I also used to be really obsessed with Sonic the Hedgehog and Pokemon... But I can't really get into those games anymore for some reason...

I tend to have three or four on the go at once! Not sure if that counts as "special," but my interest in each is pretty intense. I stick to a few main areas. I'm usually into writing music, listening to classical music, science fiction & fantasy, watching wildlife, and the sciences. More sporadic interest in boardgames, comics and history. But the details of the obsession vary. For a couple of months I might be heavily into moths, songwriting and exoplanets; later in the year it's the X-Men, Charles Stross novels and Malipiero symphonies. My knowledge is definitely not as deep as that of someone who focuses on the same subject for years. It's nice when a brief interest comes back a while later- I've got a good grounding in it, but still have plenty left to explore.
