lawn mower- its so bad that when the gardener comes to do our yard I have to go take a shower, or go into my room which is in the middle of the house away from the windows just so I can get away from that damn noise...

Ive also always had a huge fear of sudden loud burst or pop noises especially balloons. I was so scared of balloons as a kid that i could never even enjoy myself at birthday parties...

This one will only make sense to Torontonians, unfortunately. The horrific screeching sound that the subway cars make when they round the corner into Union station from either King or St. Andrew stations. That sound feels like somebody is driving white hot nails into my head.

clicking ink pens/mechanical pencils :(

young screaming babies/children 8O

sports commentary during a game ( so not a sports fan... although I love
cheer leading competition... was a cheerleader for six years)

noise when people activate their car alarm....question: why can it not just show a light on their key chain to indicate it is activated?

fluorescent lights

TV/radio commercials

promotional advertising (usually extra loud) in stores, malls, etc. (this is why I carry a big purse so my headphones and radio are handy)

crumpling paper or plastic (usually plastic bags) My Mom's favorite torture device...she hand ties her grocery bags after shopping ( we check out at separate areas if we shop together)

Idling cars/trucks and many adults talking.

I'd probably go Rambo if I was in a city long enough.

Water running from a faucet (unless I'm running it)
Dogs barking
Metal against anything, but particularly teeth (dentist or silverware use)
Crows
Beeping (microwaves, oven timers, car indicators, etc.)
Repetitive anything

Ditto to most of the things already mentioned. But i would say my least favorite sound is the alarm clock going off in the morning. Why do they make such a unpleasant sound to wake you up in the morning?

Most of these were already said, but I'll list them anyway...

People chewing gum with their mouth open, and general gross eating.

Metal cutlery on plates or in iron pots--ow!

People crinkling noisy wrappers, like candy & granola bar wrappers

"sticky" keyboards

People rubbing their dry hands together

My disgusting neighbour clearing his lungs and yelling at his wife who is a meter away.

Muffled, low-pitched voices and bass through a wall

:x

Got another and the bastard is in my head: tinnitus. It's an old friend, but it constantly drones with its high-pitched buzz.

Oh that's bad. Also the squeak of polystyrene when you're taking it out of a box.

I don't like background music in shops, even when it's not loud I find it very distracting.

Mainly high pitched noises. I get to the point where I feel if there was a gun handy, I'd just blast the source! It is so more annoying because no-one else seems to even notice.

High pitched water hammer/tap noise.
High pitched, off key whistling. (That source needs blasting for other reasons as well, but that's another thread...)
Some ring tones
Some alarms
Some air conditioners or stereos left on stand-by.
Screaming and yelling, particularly kids.
Coffee machines - who invented those things!! !! !! !!

television static
flourescent lights
banging
muffled music/television/loud conversation from another apartment

I got a sound machine but the loops were only three seconds long and it drove me nuts. I could hear every element of each loop. The abrupt switch back to the start was terrible.

High pitched noises from machines tend to bother me. I'm really sensitive to beats and melodies but in a different way, more emotionally.

definitely the baby thing. I may have not mentioned that. It bothers me so much that i am leery of having children later in life. I have tinnitis from my welbutrin, and it bugs me sometimes.

Yeah, I hate that too; also static on the radio. I also don't like it when commercials are loud and when they scream at you to buy their product.
