I have no reason to boast. I already know that I'm good, and I was taught not to do such a thing.

Yeah, that is ANOTHER thing. Sometimes I ask others to keep it down because THEY boast. But I LIKE it when I get someplace where they figure OH YEAH, another consultant.... He'll just leave us with more work. I leave and they have a big smile on their face, say thanks, and maybe even ask for me back. Several customers DID ask for me back!

If you GO IN with them thinking you are a genius and can solve all their problems in a day, you feel under the gun, etc. ALSO, frankly, I don't have meltdowns in the first case, but often do in the second.

because I don't care

I have noticed that some NTs do it as an attempt at dominance.

Who was the French guy who wrote the book on America that without a class system, Americans resorted to a series of questions such as whether and how many musical instruments you were given lessons for as a child to determine your social worth?

If you don't boast you can't be made fun of if you ever mess up.

You know, I can't help the fact that I notice that this thread is definitely a form of boasting. The fact that there are other people who boast and who are aspies, and on this site, already contradict the OP's claim.

I think it's pretty obvious just from this thread that boasting or not dosen't have a correlation (at least certainly not a direct one) with AS. With my case, I "boasted" about my IQ because I didn't know people would find that in poor taste, and because I wanted to feel like I was worthwhile too.

Aspies don't boast because they don't like attention thus don't want to draw attention. Or because many don't like social interactions so they avoid talking to NT's thus never have an opportunity to boast. And the biggie- most AS live mediocre lives at best thus have absolutely nothing to boast about other than say their high IQ or their vast collection of ____whatever they are obsessed with. Like you think anyone wants to hear about my sock collection or Japanese glass float collection? Nope, nothing to boast about.

Great thread I hate boasting just cannot do it and I don't understand people who blow their own trumpet all the time. I think I did it inadvertently when I was a child after all that!

Yes the thing I loathe about NT's boasting is the hidden agenda behind it, it is thrown into the air to create an invisible pecking order. I like to be honest, in fact I am way to honest about my faults.

Fresco, that is so true!

And Ticker, I'd really like to hear about your sock collection, if you really have one. I'd love to collect socks. I find socks fascinating, because there are so many kinds that are beautiful.

I never boast! I know of no one as modest as I, my modesty is the envy of any who know me. I can say in confidence that I am one of the most modest of people in the world.

You want socks? Come help me do the laundry. I just had to do three loads of SOCKS and nothing but, because LadyM collects them at an exponential rate. I fear that soon there will be nothing here BUT socks.
