Another pessimist here.

I just don't understand how people who are optimists cope!

I always prefer to think of the worst-case scenario and deal with it; then when it doesn't happen it is a pleasant surprise.

If I was expecting something to turn out well, & then it didn't, it would make me really upset. So not only would I have to deal with the bad stuff, but with my disappointment etc as well.

By doing things my way, I can get all the worrying out of the way before I actually have to deal with the reality of the situation.

Recovering pessimist here. It's really hard to put my faith in anything these days and usually I'm not disappointed either. All I need is one stress-free day to test out optimism - just 24 hours with no crises and I'm pretty sure that if it works - it might be something to stick to.

I think the same exact way! It's the only way I have learned to cope w/ all of the negative crap that happens to me . At least I am always prepared for the worst, which is usually the case as of lately. I also tend to think that if I don't worry about a particular situation then something bad will happen...

or in other words - does this look half empty or half full?

That depends on whether or not the volume of liquid inside the glass is greater than or equal to the volume of the area enclosed by the glass divided by two.

I don't really know anymore. I used to want to be pessimistic or cynical because all my role models were cold like that, but the only good things I can see in being a cynic or a pessimist is that you'll at least be able to come to grips with reality if things don't go your way. And if things turn out better than you expect, you can feel happy about it. If they don't, and things turn out as bad as you expect, you don't lose much because you expected it.
