How well can you follow a movie?

i'm in a screenwriting class right now and emulating the colloqial dialogue of Judd Apatow and Tarantino films has gotten me a lot of praise from my teacher. he often compliments me on how "natural" it sounds.

I don't follow the beginnings of movies very well. I usually get lost when movies try to introduce a bunch of characters all at once. I also tend to get completely confused with back stories that are given right in the beginning of a film. Other times it just takes me a while to get engaged in a movie. I'll daydream a lot at first. Often I'll miss one or two important plot elements exposed near the start of the film that turn out to be important later on. I always run into something that confuses me and I feel the need to go back and re-watch the beginning.

I'm bad at watching movies. Face recognition, plot points, hidden agendas, disiphering accents, understanding motives, too much action . .. .it all confuses me. I do best with simple yet brainless romantic comedies or dramas. I LOVE documentaries. You learn stuff, but there's no plot!
