Apparently, according to the nurse that admistered my IV, there has to be a significant amount of bubbles before it is a threat. I guess she was right, nothing bad happened despite the bubbles.

8O Can you be more specific about how how does it? That can be dangerous!

I don't bite my nails or crack any body parts. I have a friend who has cracked almost everything in his body. I find the cracking/popping sound to be totally disgusting.

If he's doing it by standing behind you and picking you up by wraping his arms around your torso, that's safe.

That sounds more like my neck. It can really creep some people out and my doctor finds it intsresting how loud it is. He's had med students with him before and he was like "hey, check out how loud his neck cracks".

My feet/toes/ankles crack a lot, when I'm stretching comfortably to alleviate tenseness. Dunno' if it's unusual or excessive.
Did once have to go dr. for emergency when my finger that I bit got infected (embarrassing & painful) and was given a tetanus shot. That experience taught me to buy triple antibiotic ointment to put on my fingers when things got that bad again, so wouldn't need dr. again.
Bit fingernails constantly for most of my life (ages 4-30), but stopped completely a couple years ago-not intentionally, it just happened. Bit toenails for most of that time, too. Now have "long" fingernails for first time ever, and have to use tools instead of teeth. It's a trade-off, one set of problems for another.

I don't bite my fingernails, just pick at them. It still looks pretty bad.

I read somewhere that cracking your knuckles when you don't need to can lead to weakness, not arthritis, when you get older.

I can't even imagine cracking my joints - the idea alone sends shivers up & down my spine.

I chewed my fingernails, cuticles, and surrounding skin all my life. It caused them to bleed, and hurt a lot, but I still did it. At least part of this was to remove flaps of skin , I don't like them. Perhaps it comes from the same thing as my old childhood trick of peeling loose wallpaper until no more remained loose. (my parents hated that!)

Now the good news: I stopped spontaneously when I was about 50 or so. (though a nail that breaks is still in grave danger, as I use my teeth to try to neaten it up)

Now the bad news: since I bit my fingernails all my life, I never learned how to cut them properly with nail clippers, so they are still a mess now!

When I was first saw this thread a minute ago, I was in the process of knawing off the nail on my left ring finger. I've been biting my nails for literally as long as I've had teeth. Cracking my knuckles I used to do alot in in middle school. The more you do it, I find, the louder the noises you can make. Even wiggling my fingers used to sound like someone walking around on bubble wrap, and I would do this constantly. My mom told me that if I kept doing that, I was going to get arthiritis, so I eventually dropped the habit. I don't think there is anything on earth I can do to stop chewing my nails, and I really wish I could. I've read that people alot of times, particularly women, may judge you by your hands, and bad hands can be a huge turnoff; and my fingertips are most certainly bad. It's definitely a drag.

Never bit my nails. Only thing I can crack is my ankles.
