Did you ever think something along those lines?

Yeah I have, only I would have ended up killing someone that annoyed me rather than being killed myself

I guess that I was reading too much into the Broadway musical, 'Hair'.

Now I see why my mun didn't want me watching it, that afternoon when I was in Grade 9.

Oh, my GOODNESS, you were thinking that CLAUDE was disliked because he was BRITISH?? no, he was just CLAUDE, is all!

Please remember that "Hair" was an EXPLOITATION of hippies. They made a buck, not a documentary!

Now - 1960's/70's? I think I would've done alright in those times... or at least have been in with a shot.

But true History you say? Like - Roman, Medieval, Tudor, Victorian... hell no I wouldn't have stood a chance.

all History is true.
I got through the 60 and 70 because in the drug culture, no one thought you were much weirder than others. I have my hardest time with straight people, because they are SO 'normal' I stick out like a sore thumb. When they were in various stages of toasty, they didn't notice.

as much.

Probably, most of us would have been killed. People don't like what they don't understand. That's probably how the witch trials got started.

HOWEVER.

That was then, and this is now. They still don't understand us, but they can't burn us at the stake......well.....nah, I'm trying to be funny, but that's not funny.

Probably, we all would have been killed. Now we're just bullied.

Taking it to another level, I always assumed if I hadn't been pulled out of school in 7th grade I probably would've met my end at highschool. I mean, half the reason my parents put me into home schooling was for my physical safety. The funny part about that is that I didn't fight back at all. Just once, and it was only to protect the bully from hurting my best friend in fifth grade.

Anyways....when you take into account that I graduated in 2000, that's a pretty bleak outlook on things. Which would be why I don't dwell on that thought much. I'm more concerned now with being myself and letting my creativity flow, using those to make me who I am, not some people's messed up perceptions.

I most certainly would've been killed if I lived during Jim Crow or slavery. As a slave, I would've gotten beaten to death since I'd rather be dead than someone's property.
During segregation, I would've been too "strong-willed" to put up with being a third-class citizen, therefore getting myself hanged by a lynch mob for being too "uppity".

Child you have just described what has happened to me in my life, and I was a white woman, with the accent on the WOMAN. I can't tell you how many times I got the holy hell beat out of me for 'talking back' to a man, or being threatened with physical violence by a group of guys AND their women for being an 'uppity woman!'

I understand, completely.

What with adopting crows, playing with snakes and salamanders, asking too many uncomfortable questions of religious authorities, and liking dogs and cats as much as people, I definitely would have been burnt as a witch.

I would like to have been around at the turn of the last century, so that I could see the birth of the dance craze in the 20s and 30s, but I get the feeling I would be considered an eccentric at the very least, and in Bedlam at the worst. If I had been around in the early 1900s, I would probably have wanted to be around in an earlier time.

I didn't discover there was a pecking order till my forties. I had always treated everyone the same, and never knew why I was shunned.

Now I know you're expected to treat well those whom you need more than they need you, no matter how they behave towards you. And you're expected to do as you wish to those who need you more than you need them, no matter how nice they are to you, because their niceness is what is expected from them in the circumstances.

how skewed. and you are supposed to figure this out how? oh, wait, that was a rhetorical question. of course you are supposed to figure this out. doesn't mean I am going to do it. I would rather be shunned. and I am shunned. now I know why.

thanks

Being born in a less enlightened epoch or even one of the less developed contemporary societies I'd be almost for sure dead before others would hit upon an idea to terminate me. As a child I was almost permanently ill (when at the age of 12 I got a cold only five times during one year, my mother was very glad that I started to grow up from this) and pneumonia would kill me before my fifth birthday.

I imagine I would be the village scapegoat and be burned at the stake.
