okay, seeing as that example was a complete failure how about Mozart, Hans Christian Andersen, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, Immanuel Kant, Baruch Spinoza, and Isaac Newton. Phyciatrists therize each of them may of had AS, their births are spead out over several centruries.

BTW - I KNEW I'd once heard a story about an experiment being conducted over the city of Winnipeg where I lived for some years! Most people dismissed the very idea - "Like anyone would EVER conduct an experiment on a city of citizens like that! Conspiracy nut!" - yet there it is. Cadmium. Thanks to the @#$% Yankees down south.

No offense to you Americans, but I'm sure sick of your' military not respecting anyone's borders, especially the big one to the North that seems to get the worst of it.

Free trade, my hindquarters.

But like the comic in the link you provided mentions - the pharmaceutical companies have been doing this for decades - as well as taking every NATURAL remedy they can, and turning it into a chemical version which they can then patent and make $billions from. Then, natural remedies and herbs can be boycotted, criminalized, or just plain ridiculed.

...or controlling diseases rather than curing them - insuring that suckers will pay for their disease control every day of their miserable lives.

Guaranteed there was madness in their families - most likely the mother's. Either inconsistancies, death, separation, alcoholism, illness - forced the child to go within, dissasociate and create a complex, colorful and innovative inner world. In exploration, fantasy and imagination is sparked and within that spark lies the potential for genius.

My point was that there are indications of autism existing in stories and legends created centuries ago. Even if that proves to be incorrect, the "moral of the story" was to not dismiss people with differences as useless or undesirable. Everyone who wants to contribute has a place.

my psychology teacher told our class about the people giving increasingly higher electric shocks to people because of orders.

You are referring to Dr. Stanley Milgram and his famous "Obedience to Authority Experiment" which showed that people
can and will inflict harm on others simply because an authority figure ordered them to do so. Scary. 8O

If you ask me Autism has been around as long as we've been socialised beings. Some of us just didn't pick up the new ways and as the (what we call) NT mode of communications became the norm, some of us were left behind.

I think we've had Autistics and Aspergeans through out history. Some might have been called hermits, sages, or mountain mystics... Others may have been known by less flattering terms like village idiots, imbeciles or simpletons.

You can't say that something like Autism only existed after some point in time because there were no reports of it before it was discovered and named and quantified.

That's like saying cancer didn't exist until Hippocrates "invented" it, as there were no people diagnosed with carcinomas until we had the word carcinoma.

No but you can assume that it's idiotic to label people with a syndrome whose traits can be explained away with other disorders that are frequently confused with it.

For example shyness is often given as a reason for people being Autistic, yet not everybody with Autism is shy, also a lot of people who are shy have a different reason, like Social Anxiety or simply being different. The same is true for all the other traits.

Yes jjstar, you're right, every case of autism that isn't linked to mercury are because of physical surroundings.
