I do very little whining in real life, which makes WP a great outlet. It's not that I never feel the urge to do so, of course, I just don't want to be a complainer. It also doesn't seem to me like it's very productive. Although, I'm led to understand that whining with someone rather than to them is supposed to be a bonding thing (like coworkers complaining about their boss to each other).

Whine all you want.

Just don't cut the cheese. :P

I can definitely identify with everything you said. I try not to call it whining but that's pretty much what it is. I've even had some people stop talking to me because they say I'm so negative. But like someone else said I don't really whine openly its just to the few that are in my circle, maybe that's why i have no one in my circle right now :(

To quote Aimee Mann:

"And I know life is getting shorter
I can't bring myself to set the scene
Even when it's approaching torture
I've got my routine"

That sums it up pretty well, I'd say, at least for me. Once I get into a routine, it's *very* difficult for me to break from it. I like life to follow a predictable pattern, and feel very much off-kilter when it doesn't. I tend to do things the same way every time, all the time. The world just feels so much more orderly and manageable that way.
Solving problems requires making changes, and it often seems like far more trouble than it's worth to vary the rhythm of my life.
That doesn't mean I haven't taken steps to improve things, if the situation really screams for it. It's *really* not easy, though.

I'm not a whiner. I do like to vent at authority figures like therapists though.

I am an iconoclast, attacking dogmas and leaders past their use by date.

Viva la revolution!!

To the OP...

As for why people whine? Well, a person might whine about something for the same reason that a person might yelp in pain when their hand is held against a scalding hot stove. It's a natural emotional reaction to all kinds of unpleasantness in life.

As to why people don't do anything to solve their problems? Some problems are very HARD, if not impossible to remedy to our satisfaction. A lot of people don't like their job, yet they have to get up in the morning anyways to go to work because they need the money. There's nothing they can do about it since they can't just decide to stop going.

Of course this is all so obvious that I don't know why I'm typing all this... Yea... I apologize to everyone for replying to such an old post but I can think of nothing better to do right now.

The complaints get annoying sometimes, but it is good that people have space to vent. I know I apreciate it on bad days.

Complaining is fun and isn't counterproductive as seen on tv.

+1

I don't care for "whiners" myself (although I used to do it all the time and still catch myself doing it on occasion).

Complaining about what we don't like is easy. Doing something to fix it is hard...especially if the source of our complaint comes from something outside our control.

Seems like that's what WP is supposed to be. But every time someone steps up and says that Aspies can better their lives, they get shot down because "not everyone is that high functioning." So not everyone is. But I still get the feeling that some people are more content sitting on their asses, playing up the AS card, than actually trying to face their difficulties.

you may have a point there. but at least this aspie can tell you [and probably legions others as well] that i [and the legions] have tried repeatedly to face said difficulties, only to find them not only insurmountable but inpenetrably labyrinthian as well- IOW the mountain not only is too steep to even think about climbing but it is also shape-shifting and elusive so as to avoid grappling with in the first place. my problems are a lot like a greased pig- fleet and devilishly elusive.
