Those new fire alarms that are multi-frequency high-pitched bursts of sound completely freeze me. I either am frozen from that noise, with the flashing lights, or panicking, trying to get away from it. Some safety device.

oh yeah. High end really bothers me...and as a keyboard player, I'm supposed to be playing up there...;)

Always like bass (started out as a bass player). I had a Gibson EB-0 that had a pickup the size of a fist. Maybe the 'brown' note is a fiction, but I've had it loosen things after a while...;)

The long, drawn-out bass notes in recent music (not to pick on anyone, but they know who they are..;) do get on my nerves. Tight, rhythmic and punchy bass notes sound 'good' to me, the other sounds like the bass cabinet needs screws tightened, or something.

Any frequency of sufficient volume will get on my nerves...

I hate loud bass tones, and some loud high-pitch sounds of certain frequencies. I tested my hearing using a sound-editing program called "Audacity", my hearing range is 22 - 12000+ Hz, anything below 50 Hz can be bothersome if too loud. As for White Noise, it can be soothing if soft, like rain.

High pitched noises, particularly electronic beeps. They freeze my brain and I can't concentrate on anything but the beeeeep. What's worse, I can't tell which direction it's coming from, so even if I did have a big enough hammer, I couldn't do anything about it.

High-pitched ones, yes. I seem to be able to hear high-pitched frequencies better than other people, though it also affects me more.

Sometimes muted TV's bother me. Some of them are even loud. Clanging dishes bother me too. Earlier I had to tell my boyfriend to turn the TV off before he went to bed because none of us were using it. It was just a blue screen.

Infants crying
The sounds in Wal-Mart, which drive me up a wall. The fluorescent lights add to the misery, and the 'colorful' loud customer base does not help.

crying babies drive me up the wall so severely that we have an emergency departure plan set up so that if we are anywhere where there are babies crying and i start going wonky we just leave... restaurant WHATEVER we just leave... if its a restaurant we tell them box our food and we will meet you at the register... on average to complete execution of the emergency departure plan it takes about 3 minutes.

I do not like the sound of the ballasts in some florescent light fixtures, because they put out a high frequency sound.

Actually it predates both trance and house, haha. I personally enjoy ambient music (both the "mellow" types and the noisier types), but I know it's not for everyone.

For me it's always been the typicals like fingernails on chalk board. A new one that I'm increasingly finding oppressive is white noise, or humming of fans and air conditioners. It's okay at first, but after about five minutes, it starts getting more and more oppressive. Great in the Summer. Just great.

Also negates the effect of white noise machines at a local counseling office. They use them for two purposes. To mask conversations, making them harder to hear from even a short distance, and they are supposed to induce calm.

NOT WORKING FOR ME THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! !! !! !! !! !! !

(Except for the "can't hear anyone talking part" and that's part of what causes the oppression for me}

This is why I wish like hell I could find a place where it's sixty to sixty-five degrees (F) all year round.
