I dont deny its existance as an arbitrary diagnostic label, but i do question its existance as a clinically significant syndrome.

For all i know, AS is nothing more than a hypothetical construct, arrived at by cherry-picking from the wide spectrum of neurodiverse traits to arrive at a stereotype. A stereotype that may be telling us more about cultural bias in 40s austria (?), than human neurology, iyswim.

'40s Austria has little to do with it. More like '80s UK.

In the last few days I've had to cope with my other son being diagnosed with high functioning autism. This has led me to re-evaluate autism vs aspergers.

All I can see is one wide spectrum of people who don't fit the social norms. Along that spectrum are various groups of people who don't fit in the same ways. They give names to these groups and aspergers is one of the names.

Maybe people don't believe that the name applies to you, but surely they can see that you're not in the "entirely normal and boring" group.

Same reason people deny the Holoucast. It makes life easier for them if these things don't exist.
