What is more important in this world than happiness?

How does anything mentioned in this thread lead to happiness?

Autistics are capable of being happy. Yay.

I treat people based on merit, not rank or status.

I notice hidden assumptions most people never notice or blindly assume are part of the "natural order of things"

I speak my mind. If people don't like my opinions that it THEIR problem, not mine. People do not have a right NOT to be offended.

I see patterns, connections, and order in nature most people miss.

I am glad to read so many have something upbeat to say.

I certainly wouldn't change anything about my autistic ways ! !

All of the above, plus, I'm never (well, rarely) bored. There's always something to learn! Or to look at! Or to touch, because it feels furry/crinkly/whatever! Or to imagine; there are no ends to the imagination! And I always have someone to have a conversation with (granted, it's myself), so I can share my opinions about all of this stuff with me! Honestly, just the ability to be constantly amazed and learning, is such a gift. It ties in with the childlike thing, I think, because I often relate better to children. As an example, in a park the other adults will be standing talking about so-and-so and her job, or his car, while the children are creating worlds to play in, or picking up interesting bugs, or wondering what kind of tree this is, and if it can be turned into a pirate ship. Guess which group I join?

And when all that fails, I just walk across the university campus and get distracted by the bunny infestation. Bunnies!

*****NICE*****! That is HUMBLING! I came CLOSE to really doing well a few times. I think I got the last piece of the puzzle. NOW if I can fix my diet, and get rid of my WP addiction, MAYBE I can get in the next set of videos.

Outside of the lack of social skills, I have seen nothing in AS to make me unhappy, but a lot makes me happy. I have found SO much I wish I new earlier. I feel like a guy that got a table in 1971 and only recently found that it was a computer. 8-( Or like a guy that passed up a chance to get berkshire hathaway for $50/share because "Who the heck is warren buffet!?!?!?", and I just found out! BTW, brk.a is UP for the day! $135,500 USD! And NOPE, I didn't mis type!

It depends on how happiness is defined.



Very easily.

Some people believe they are happy, but deep down inside they are not.

We're pure human beings. Child-like, honest, loyal and always thinking.

We're also extremely smart and excel at anything we are interested in.

But the majority of us really ARE happy.

Right now, I'm happy with myself for the first time in years.

Exactly, which is why I said it depends on how happiness is defined.

It's possible to be superficially unhappy but truly happy, or superficially happy but truly unhappy.

However, I'm completely at a loss to see how being autistic is a barrier to true happiness, or more a barrier to true happiness than being non-autistic is (since being non-autistic carries its own set of illusions to get caught up in).
