I do this myself. It is an AS trait, and I've tried to stop, for it does bother people .

Yes, I've often talked to myself during times when I driving somewher as a means of carrying out certain instructions to remember like where to turn if my destination requires a great amount of road-mapping so to speak..

Sometimes when I'm alone I suddenly start talking to myself and I voice the thoughts in my head out loud. Sometimes I don't realise I'm doing this until just before I stop.

Secondly, when I'm in a public place (classrooms and shops mostly) I find that I go blank and I totally forget what is going on around me. Again I don't realise I have gone blank until I 'wake up' from it.

Do these kind of things happen to any of you?

Yep, I talk to myself all the time in private. I run through conversations I've had, and conversations that I would like to occur.

Your second point is familiar to me too. This usually happens when I've been forced to go to a bar or club. I think I just retreat into my head so I don't have to experience what's going on around me.

Yes, I talk to myself...did that growing up too and got many beatings because my dad claimed I was talking about him or something...I don't know...

Anyway, still do it...once I was outside and my neighbor asked..."are you talking to yourself?" :? 8O :(
