I'm listening to the song "Six Foot Town" by Big and Rich (the country stars famous for "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy"). Some of the lyrics just really struck me.

"Some people live in a tiny little box
They're preoccupied about mismatching their socks."

Whether or not that first one is a valid description of spectrum traits is debatable, but some make it sound like it is.

The chorus goes:

"It's hard to get around in a six foot town
When you're ten feet tall everything is so small
I'm always bumping my head
I'm way to long for the bed
It's hard to get around
In a six foot town."

Paints imagery of the different perspective people on the spectrum have of the world.

And like was mentioned above and in similar threads, "Unwell" by Matchbox 20 seems to also fit. The music video just as much as the song.

Surprised no one has mentioned these songs yet.

Artist: Pink Floyd

Arnold Layne had a strange hobby
Collecting clothes
Moonshine washing line
They suit him fine

On the wall hung a tall mirror
Distorted view, see through baby blue
He dug it
Oh, Arnold Layne
It's not the same, takes two to know
Two to know, two to know
Why can't you see?

Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne

Now he's caught - a nasty sort of person.
They gave him time
Doors bang - chain gang - he hates it

Oh, Arnold Layne
It's not the same, takes two to know
Two to know, two to know
Why can't you see?

Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne
Don't do it again.

Pink Floyd: See Emily Play

Emily tries but misunderstands, ah ooh
She often inclined to borrow somebody's dreams till tomorrow
There is no other day
Let's try it another way
You'll lose your mind and play
Free games for may
See emily play

Soon after dark emily cries, ah ooh
Gazing through trees in sorrow hardly a sound till tomorrow

There is no other day
Let's try it another way
You'll lose your mind and play
Free games for may
See emily play

Put on a gown that touches the ground, ah ooh
Float on a river forever and ever, emily br>
There is no other day
Let's try it another way
You'll lose your mind and play
Free games for may
See emily play

ok really the emily one only had the borrowing dreams line :p

Oh, I also forgot to mention the song "Jenny Dreamed of Trains" by Vince Gill. Among the lyrics are lines such as:

"When Jenny was a little girl she only dreamed of trains
She never played with dolls or lacy kinds of things
...
All she ever talked about was gettin' on to ride
...
No one believed her when she said she heard the train
She was just a little girl actin' kinda strange
...
Jenny laid a penny on the track one day
...
The very next mornin' all that she could find
Was a little piece of copper squashed flatter than a dime"

Let's see, all-encompassing interest which was "all she ever talked about," people saying she was "kinda strange," noticing things others did not...the lyrics contain a lot of other descriptions, and I'm definately not saying the person in the song actually has an ASD or not, but those traits in particular very clearly seem to ring a bell.

Wasn't sure if should mention the floyd or not. The Barrett songs are also about schizophrenia/mental illness etc.

How about this one, it's probably my favourite:

Shine on you Crazy Diamond (part 1)

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the cross fire of childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger,
you legend, you martyr, and shine!

You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter,
you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

Shine on you Crazy Diamond (part 2)

Nobody knows where you are, how near or how far.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Pile on many more layers and I'll be joining you there.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
And we'll bask in the shadow of yesterday's triumph,
and sail on the steel breeze.
Come on you boy child, you winner and loser,
come on you miner for truth and delusion, and shine!

I always felt that song described myself to a T

Well, Barrett most likely has Aspergers not schizophrenia, someone around here told me that he admitted to having AS.

Erm... Why do you still insist he had schizophrenia? A few room smashing meltdowns from the stress would probably would look like it, but probably as a result from AS...

How many friends, The Who

"How many freinds have I really got?
How many freinds have I really got?
How many freinds have I really got,
Who love me, who'll take me as I really am..."

I always thought he is a drug induced schizophrenic because everything i have read about the man either says he or doesnt mention a specific condition. I have yet to read any article or website that alleges he has AS.

I just checked wikipedia and it does indeed say "it has been suggested that he has Asperger's syndrome" but it also said he had a "schizophrenic condition" and there are stories of his "psychotic behaviour". I guess since he has been such a recluse for years we may never find out for sure what he has. If he does turn out to have Asperger's and none of the other things co-morbid then he will be owed an apology at the very least by the media for speculating him to have developed psychological problems due to drug abuse rather than having a condition he was born with.
