My avatar is a tarsier, a prosimian (in between monkeys and other mammals) native of the Phillipines/Indonesia. They are small enough to fit in the palm of most peoples hands, yet they prey on birds/snakes larger than they are and can jump 20 times their length. It is a symbol for myself of sorts-tiny on the outside, big on the inside, and it loves it's freedom-they do not do well in captivity.

Nice to have another rock fan on the forums. The Mars Volta are ace - totally different from At The Drive-In but just as good. Have you heard any My Bloody Valentine? 8)

Mine is from a cover illustration of an issue of Meat Cake by Dame Darcy. It's my favourite comic.

I have heard of Bloody Valentine, but have not heard anything by them. BUt if you like that emo-ey stuff you should check out Engine Down and Minus The Bear. Engine down is straight forward rocking, and minus the Bear has a style that is sort of Bizzare but really good. Their guitar player has become really imagintive with incredibly smooth lush chord-tapping parts, Lyrics may leave a little to be desired but I understand that those guys probably live off music. They have the guitar player from Botch, who is another band that you must listen to if you like hard music. Really mathy, and moody. Very tight.

Mine's pretty much an easy one to explain, the avatar is a pic of my two sons. :)

8O I'm a huge indie rock geek and I love lots of obscure bands. Unwound and Pinback are two of my favorite bands of all time and "Leaves Turn Inside You" is one of my favorite albums of all time. Justin's vocals on "Scarlet" is just plain scary (in a good way), and the "December" bass line is permanently stuck in my brain. Way Cool!

 Mars Volta -- I've never heard any of their music, but the name keeps coming up and lots of people are raving about them. I should check them out sometime...

I owned the loveless album for a short time, but I just didn't quite "get it". It seems like good music, but I never connected with it or understood what the band was trying to do when they recorded that album.

Don Caballero, Jehu, Mogwai, Les Savy Fav, Blonde Redhead, American Analog Set, ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, Constantines, Neutral Milk Hotel, Broken Social Scene, Liars -- Ring a bell with anyone?

BTW, my avatar is a cover from a famous indie-rock album.

My avatar contains:
1. Lowercase letter M, which is my first name initial.
2. Greek letter Nu, a symbol of the neutrino, the elementary particle that interacts only weakly (just like me). *
3. Picture of White Sands, New Mexico (I may change it in the future).

* Scientists hypothesize that neutrinos have mass and hence interact gravitationally. However, gravity is much weaker than weak force, so it does not invalidate my symbolism.

Edit: This is my old avatar that I described in this post:

My avatar is a picture of Homer Simpson, simply because I love The Simpsons!

My Avaitor represents me. It shows the world that I'm usually smiling, or laughing, and that I wear Horn-Rimmed Glasses.

My avatar is my personalized symbol of therianthropy. You take a circle and a triangle intersected thus, and put a silouette of your inner animal on the inside. I'm not as much of a ferret expert as mich though.

Here's the story behind my avatar.

It used to be that annoying talking smiley-face, and that represented my garrulousness. But that got old.

Now my avatar is a picture of my imaginary friend and alter ego, Iris. I have known her ever since I was diagnosed with Asperger's at age 4, but I actually never seen a picture of her that matched my mental image until very recently. I was telling my friend about her and she said that she saw someone on a Pokémon game who matched my description. She gave me the Url link to her and I liked her so much I made her my avatar. She fit my mental picture perfectly. I persuaded my parents to get me the game in which she is the protagonist. If only Iris were actually real...

Mine used to be a pic of the boys from our summer vacation with my parents in Old Orchard Beach, Maine this past July. I changed it to a picture of me from Dec. 2004.

It's the logo for the UK drum n' bass (jungle) label Metalheadz. I think this one was yanked off the cover of their second Platinum Breakz CD.
