It's Asperger's SYNDROME and not DISORDER, GRRRRR!! !! !
Wrackspurt,
You touched on an interesting point; some people question the validity of the disorder itself, whether there's a need to have a separate category for people with autism who can talk well. If one sees that the only difference between autism and Asperger's is a delay in developing communication skills, but they soon catch up as they mature and there's then effectively no difference between Asperger's and autism; which goes in full circle as Asperger and Kanner were both describing the same thing (Asperger had individuals from all over the "spectrum" if we use modern terminology, and Kanner had some that'd be Asperger's today).
Having two labels to describe two set levels of severity doesn't make too much sense when one sees a whole heap of individuals with an ASD. We're all over the place, and most hover in the middle of the two extremes.
