My reply would have been to compare it to trying to cure homosexuality. Hey some people have tried to do that...

But aside from that, my opinion is that there won't be a cure. At least not he kind that pro-cure people think is coming.
This would require some sort of magic chemical that can make a person NT. I just don't see it happening because there is just too many complicated factors involved in what is essentially completely altering the way the brain works.
And just for the record, I am believer that AS/Autism is genetic and causes the brain to be wired differently from NTs. No magic bullet to undo something like that. (Some might say gene therapy could do this, but that kind of cure is probably even beyond my lifetime from happening.)

The only kind of "cure" that could ever happen is if the genetic markers for autism are found someday. From that, then it could be possible to just remove those traits from the genome and thus preventing any autistics from being born. Either that or just abort autistic fetuses.

The students you mentioned sound ill-informed.

Typical neurotypicals!! Hear some advertisements, don't bother to take the time to do any research .... let someone else tell them their opinion. Then if anyone challenges them, follow the crowd.

I'm a neurotypical so I know that this often is the case. Be told what to think and think it. Let emotions rule opinions rather than logic. Follow the crowd.

Uh. People like to butt brains against me. I am concidered a smart kid, and I am very opinionated. Most the people at my school fall to the same types of idea and thoughts processes, as well as beliefs... So they try to change how I think by giving me not well thought out arguments.

I agree. Genetic manipulation opens up doors that not only likely eradicates autism, but also many many more features.

Even some that nobody now considers a problem. Maybe such things as gray eyes and pointed noses? Or from posture to height, weight down to size on the wrists and the length of fingers?

In the face of 'perfection', I bet many people will change their opinion on what is a good feature to have and what is not 'as desirable'.

Those to claim to want to "cure" us are nothing more than a bunch of conformists. They want us to all be individuals as long as we are all the same.

I was raised by conformist parents who even though always said to me "everybody is different," only wanted me to be different if I chose to be like my sister. They thought forcing me to go where she does and do what she does, and tormenting me for not having her interests, would make me aspire to be more like her. It only did the opposite, made me hate what she was even more.

They just couldn't squeeze this square peg into a round hole.
