If people with Asperger's syndrome retain "childlike" qualities even as adults, it is likely for the same reason that females mature faster than males, blacks faster than whites, apes faster than humans.
Asperger's syndrome is not a disorder, it is a degree of expression of Neanderthal genes.
And, the fact that Aspies may often have those "childlike" attributes is not a bad thing. It makes out of them people who will be prone to be better at problem solving, and more prone to experiment.
It is understandable that the fact that women seen as more feminine are often assumed to be less intelligent.
Both male and female aspies tend to have more a masculine brain. It is why some female aspies can occur to be bisexual.
More masculine brains will have more water flowing through the corpus callosum, the structure that links the left and right hemisphere of the brain, further enhancing interhemispheric communication. But that is not the only thing that supposedly makes men more intellectually apt.
Asperger's syndrome also usually comes with a thicker corpus callosum.
