Me too. I thought I knew 'just enough' about AS and Autism before I came here, until I started reading posts from others who have accumulated years upon years of factoids on the subject. I don't even try, LOL.

I do wonder if some NTs who try and argue "illogically" have learned to do so, consciously or subconsciously, in order to manipulate the situation and get their own way. With people who are that way inclined they are strategically (again, consciously or subconsciously) ignoring the details of the facts so they can bend the truth in order to win.

Don't beat yourselves up about not being able to do this, it's not a very nice skill to be using especially in the workplace. Although it can be quite useful I suppose if you have to deal with someone who plays the game like this and you need to stoop to their level in order to hold your own.

I'd like to point out that I believe most NTs are honest when they're arguing, and the ones that aren't are usually just scared of confrontation or upsetting people and this can be why they bend the truth. The other main reason for behaving like this is that they simply are bad managers and have not received appropriate personnel training (a common fault in the workplace from what I can tell).

I agree. A lot of people don't really know how to argue logically. They inject too much of an emotional stake in it. The language may be more lofty, but if you break it down to the nuts and bolts of what they're trying to say, you will more often than not find that (other than their opinion, of which they give very high regard) there's nothing there but unqualified schoolyard bickering. I believe that anyone who argues has honest feelings about the subject they're opposed to or trying to defend - they just lack the skills to articulate what it is they're trying to say. Most people, IMO, don't really know 'how' to utilize the basic "if-then" principle of logic. There are 'life coaches' out there, as well as 'personality coaches' and so on. Why not 'Argument' or 'Logic' Coaches, too? Seems to be a need for it...

My boss called me into his office yesterday, accused me of complete incompetence (not true), extreme tardiness (not true), untrustworthiness (not true), etc. The real issue was: he dumped an inhuman amount of work on me (what with me being the most hard-working in the office) and instead of keeping it a secret to protect his reputation in the company, I mentioned it to anyone who complained that I don't do all of their work.

I think it's considered bad form to complain behind your boss's back. You should have probably talked to your boss about unreasonable work expectations first. Complaining to other people like that reflects your boss in a bad light (i.e., the impression is he does not know how to properly manage his reporting employees; relations between him and his employees may be strained with a lack of mutual trust and respect). Of course, it is pretty unreasonable for your boss to make false accusations, but apparently that's how he's expressing his emotions.

Yes, seems that complaining about the wrong thing is how NTs express their emotions. I often watch them argue and I think it's awesome how they both manage to never, by accident, mention the real issue - and yet both "know" perfectly well, at a gut level, what the real issue is.

One of his accusations was of extreme tardiness. Today was the 1st. of the month, so it's the date he signs our time reports - and mine showed that every day for the whole month I had arrived to work earlier than my time. He didn't bat an eyelid when we both looked at it together and he signed his OK (I didn't mention his lie, of course). Lying and being exposed in their lies is NOTHING for them. Lies are part of being a human. Total honesty, however, is considered inhumane.

Pluto, that's what I did yesterday. When the boss told me that he expects from me much more than from the rest of the team because I can do so much more than the others (and that he's considering firing me for not reaching what he thinks is my full potential), rather than arguing that it's unfair I said "Maybe you overestimate my abilities". That seemed to calm him down a bit. He's demanding from me inhuman amounts of work and inhuman amounts of hours a day - when I work 12 hours he scolds me for going home too soon.

I don't know what the labor laws are in your part of the Middle East, but he's using fear to manipulate you. He sees that he can keep getting more out of you by constantly threatening your job security; you've let it work so far, so he keeps doing it. A 12-hour workday five days a week is unreasonable; you should let him know it. If you're more productive than two or more employees, he's obviously not so willing to fire you as he claims.

Yes, he's using fear to manipulate me.

Oh God I hate that.... when that person tries to take the heat off the real issue by bringing up something that really seems downright irrelevant to the facts at hand. Grrrr.

Some NTs can tell that you have problems in things and tend to use those to there advantage to attack you or prove there point.
