I started driving well before I turned sixteen and got my license. My aunt had me driving in rural areas when I was tall enough to reach the pedal and see over the steering wheel. My dad taught me to drive a stick shift when I was thirteen.

I got my license at 21.

I learned at 17. But I got epilepsy when I was about 26. So most of my life I haven't been driving. I never did like it although I did like being able to go where I wanted to when I wanted to. But I didn't like the actual driving.

It's silly to get offended by the R word when the person used it on himself.


I learned to drive at age 15 and got my license when I was nearly 17 so seven years now.

I took driver's ed/training and got my permit my first semester in 9th grade (started school late due to social issues), BUT...didn't actually get my diver's license til i was 19. Even now, i don't drive too much. I never go on the interstate and hate the bigger roads. Too many cars, visual clutter, etc makes me nervous.

I got my license very early but I failed my driving test many times before I did. Looking back on it now, my problem was that I lacked confidence in myself. At the time I just couldn’t imagine myself driving or accept the fact that I could.

I had driving lessons about forty years ago, but found that driving was too stressful and never took my driving test.

Was wondering why I didn't recognise any avatars. This thread is 4 years old. Still no license never been for a test but I can drive fine.

I have my licence but have pretty much given up on driving in general because it stresses me out to the point that I soak the seat with sweat. I don't trust myself not to miss things or make silly mistakes and have nightmares about not being able to control the car.

LoL. it seems like the only one who was offended was him. i'm not offended by the "R" word either. i use it on myself as well as my NT friends. as an aspie, i've kinda desensitized myself to derogatory words, used to make fun of me as a child. I've been called everything from ret*d, weird, "off", spacey, etc.

what was the topic again? driving? oh yes. it took me like 5 years to learn how to drive, because i was never interested in learning until i turned 16, and when i first started, i was ridiculously bad. my parents actually gave up trying to teach me, so my boyfriend at the time picked up where they left off at about 20. i finally got my official license at 21.

I have never learned how to drive, not yet, anyway. It's expensive and I have never thought it neccessary since I live in a big city with buses, trams and tubes.
Sometimes I think I should try to get a licence. I don't know if I'd be able to since I've never tried, but I have such a tendency to get lost in thoughts that I kind of wonder if I would've been a good driver if I passed or if this tendency would just cause me accidents, especially as I got more used to it and relaxed.
