Some newer things just don't seem "right"

The old bell 500 phones.... I took one apart once. Had to use cutters and a hack saw. All the electronics inside the phone were inside a metal case that was filled with some kind of grease. Those things were pretty much indestructible.

And.... I'll take a canon SLR with K-64 film any day over digital. Too bad K-64 is at the end of it's life.

I feel that new is not necessarily better too, and I'm 22. My point is more aimed at entertainment though. This decade is boring to me because things seems too rushed. Nothing is creative anymore, just pre-packaged and cloned. I see no passion in new TV/movie/music projects. All people care about is money. Even commercials and closing logos today are wack to me! I would do anything to spend a whole day in the '70s or '80s, to experience how it was back then. I love those decades.

A local electronic store sold an ON TV decoder kit! That got passed all the local laws. ON even tried to get the 565 phase lock decoder outlawed! GRANTED it was a key part in the decoder, but it WAS used for other things as well.

There are only 3 ways for digital zoom to work:

1. Vector(impractical for a camera, but the ONLY one that doesn't lose quality. It is typically used only for high priced graphics programs, some fonts, and some graphics programs working with computer generated images.)
2. Pattern enlargement.
3. Pixel enlargement.

BTW the more pixels you have, and the larger the initial picture focused is, the better 2 and 3 will work. If the pixel is .12cmm,#3 could probably be used to make it 4 times as big, and still be passable. If it were .25cmm, it would look pretty bad.

Optical zoom is equivalent to the vector enlargement for some digital programs, but is faster and just BETTER.

An old bakelite telephone... a beautiful set of curves there.

An ASR33 teletype... what a racket.... but it's what I learned to code on... love the paper tape punch/reader.

Mum's old Nikon... love the feel of the shutter.

Hey, thanks for picking up on that. Had suspected it was possible that brand names could be marketed differently in other countries, so same name would mean (refer to) dissimilar product.*
Marathons, as I recall, were sorta' like the a gigantic, flat, stretched-out "Rolo" (later candy product)-but smoothly chewy & soft, not gritty & uneven as are Rolos.

*For instance, when I visited New Zealand, I toured Cadbury factory (before it got bought out by conglomerate) & learned about "golden syrup" versus "caramel", and tasted how the "Caramello" bar there was different from the one here in U.S.
Sorry to tangent off onto microtopic.

I remember when I was little, we used to have a phone with the round dial on it. We still have all our old LP's in our closet, but we stopped listening to them years ago since our record player broke and we couldn't get parts (I mean, we couldn't even find needles for the damn thing )
Now the oldest appliance in our house is the hot water system (~15 years old)
