I never do it deliberately but I have an aptitude (if you could call it that) for saying exactly the wrong thing at the wrong time, like talking about how I find Taureans or something only to find out the person I am talking to is a Taurus and feels upset by it.

My most common way is to not sense that someone is sensitive to something and talk about it in an analytical way and then they take it personally, I am always surprised by this and I really cannot understand why facts are sometimes taken so personally when I know perfectly well that I wasn't intending to upset anyone. I really dislike this part of my social blindness.

I also have a unique skill to NOT detect who the leader of a specific herd is and step on their ego toes, thus alienating the leader and the followers in one same swipe of my unlucky brush. After that, it's go home. No solution.

I insulted a boyfriend's mother once by joking "all Theresas are crazy. I had an aunt Theresa that was psychotic" and THEN I found out her name.

Theresa.

I'm not even sure what brought up the topic. My 6th sense, I suppose.

BTW, she did turn out to be crazy.

My main way of offending people is by being *way* too Spock-ish, when arguing with them.

Also, I point things out sometimes that people are embarassed or unsure about. It's never a value judgement from me, but i'll say "nice hat" if I notice a hat they're wearing, but I deliver it wrong and people assume I'm being mean.

People always assume I'm being mean

Same here, LOL. I could say to a coworker while at work that I liked the dress or outfit they have on, but my tone of voice is 'off' somehow and they sometimes think I'm being sarcastic when I'm really not. I also blurt out things about people that they really don't want to hear or else don't want pointed out in front of others. The list of gaffs I've made is loooooong.

Kaleido, I could learn to laugh about it if I wasn't so scared about making a living.

1. I forget to acknowledge the presence of someone I know. I forget to say "hello", "goodbye", "how's it going?", etc. By nature, I don't talk unless I have something of substance to communicate. But I am trying to get better about saying hello and making small talk because it seems to make a big difference to most people.

2. I use the wrong tone of voice, or volume of voice, or facial expression. I've tried, but I can't really control these things. Apparently, NT's can control the tone and volume of their voice, all the subtleties of their body language, and so on, but I simply cannot.

3. Not enough eye contact. I guess this makes people think I don't like them or don't trust them or something?

4. Saying whatever comes to mind. Sometimes works to my advantage, but one occasion where is it is not advantageous can ruin a friendship. :(

I used to be really bad at offending people by talking about sexual things in front of them. I think I've gotten a lot better about it over the past couple of years, though.
