What are North Eastern and West Coast parts of USA like?
That's actually not true. States make MANY billions of dollars BEFORE income tax. licenses, sales tax, surcharges, registrations, subsidies, etc..... Heck, in California, I spent WELL OVER $1000 per year BEFORE income tax. Just my CAR was almost $400/year just for registration! The first year I had the car, the state got over $1,240 on that JUST from the sales tax and registration. Add import duties, gas, etc... and it may have been well over $2,000! And that is JUST ON MY CAR! Since the STATE regulates insurance, you KNOW they must be getting part of the $2600+/year I pay. NOW, I travel a lot. States average $4,380/year JUST on non resident hotel tax! On my home, there is almost $4,000/year on tax! And I am only one person. And don't forget the piddly things! California probably got over $43/year just in tax on CANDY I bought! They probably got over $200/year just on my computer purchases. That is almost $7000/year, and I am just getting started! Even TODAY, I don't make THAT much. $7000 on my old salary is more than many states would have thought about charging for income tax.
When I posted here, and in this one other thread, that the conservative culture (or that of conservative areas) appealed more to me, I did not think about the fundamental Christian thing. Fundamental Christianity has been brought up in this thread.
Regardless of whether those parts of the US tend to be fundamental or not... I can assure you fundamental Christianity is alive and well here in Edinburgh. As I as an Aspie have suffered because of it, I should know. Even in a large city outside the US, let alone the Bible Belt.
I haven't actually been to the US so people who live there would know better than me: Would I have as hard a time as an Aspie in that sort of culture in the average conservative area of the US?
Would I have as hard a time, as an Aspie in a conservative Christian culture, in the average American small town?
Do those oil royalty checks help the people up there much?
I've read that it doesn't begin to make up for the increased cost of living, price of food, etc.
Nevertheless, I am completely motivated to live in Alaska for some part of my life. Hopefully when I finish my first year of work, which has to be supervised, I can get a travel position in Alaska.
the city center, immediste south and west sides from said city center, and the north side definitely.
Yes, I've heard Colorado Springs called the most conservative town in the country!
it is-focus on the family and a bunch of other organizations similar have HQs and major operations there.
Also NORAD is nearby in Cheyenne Mountain and the USAF Academy is nearby so that might also influence it (military bases and academies tend to lean "to the right").
Boulder, CO is the opposite. Personally when I went to Colorado Springs, CO when younger for trips, etc I didn't have ay problems.
probably close to Wheaton I guess. Well there's the Mount Greenwood neighborhood in South West Chicago, full of Irish Catholics so
That and mainly Black/Hispanic areas are more religious in general
EDIT: Regarding the US South East and Conservatism...Actually Houston, the Miami area and Atlanta are basically the opposite of the surrounding areas. So is New Orleans.
Though I don't think going to New Orleans or Florida is a good idea, given the current status of the city. 22% population decrease for the metro area last year, and IIRC Florida is getting worse due to several things.

I don't know how the Bibles get thumped in Edinburgh, but Bible-thumping in Small-town USA is nothing to mess with. In the small towns, especially in the Deep South, you'd definitely be a persona non grata if you don't attend the favored local church every Sunday. In most of these towns, life pretty much exclusively revolves around church activities and the high school football game; they tend not to be especially welcoming of newcomers, especially if they don't fit the orthodox belief system.
Listen to the Chamber of Commerce!
They see you as an easy mark. The deal is, what gang will you be joining?
Conservative is if you gun down a few people while robbing a store, conseratives think you should die.
In Liberal areas 25,000 a year murdered, lots more just disappear, and they are always looking for more strangers with no local connections.
These are the people who were deported from British prisons, and coming here, killed the long time owners.
Serial Killer is a West Coast hobby.
There are two guns per person in this country, and we need them.
New Orleans has an automatic carry permit, eveyone is entitled to carry a gun going to their car, in their car, into their place of business, and the same to get home.
It is a small city, where we find 400 bodies a year.
Maybe you should try South Africa.

Well, I have been in about 70 areas, and I haven't seen all that Bible thumping. In fact, the WORST I have seen was in Southern california. In some areas in hollywood, for example, people will ACTUALLY thump their bibles, and stand on a box, screaming quotes from the Bible from street corners. SERIOUSLY, ALL THAT in one incident, and I have seen SEVERAL do it. They are the WORST! There is an "outreach" called Oasis:

The vineyard

started as an outreach!
PROMISE KEEPERS

HECK, look at THIS!

BTW they joined vineyard just before, and were kicked out just after.
So are these BAD? Do they preach hate? Are others outcast? Do you bump into these guys everywhere? Do you hear of god everywhere? ****NO****!
I'm from New England, and let me tell you that the Boston and New York accents can be downright intimidating. We also have crazy drivers and sports fans. Other than that, though, it's a wonderful area, the architecture is very European, espescially in Boston. Though the majority of people here are Christian, it is really diverse, and people are generally accepting of others' differences. As far as I know, we aren't too big on Fundamental Christianity over here. If you like crazy, unexpected weather, then you should come to New England!

What? What country do you live in?
Jeez, I live near the Bronx, and this is a gross overstatement of what life is like in the US (at least what I've seen of it). Unless you live in the projects, there's not much need to worry about your personal safety on a daily basis.
In NYC at least, most of the people who are killed with guns belong to gangs. So don't join a gang, and stay out of areas with major gang activity. It's not that hard.
In the suburbs, you really don't have much of anything to worry about- at least not more than in any other country.

Maybe the COC doesn't want people to move here. Conservatives want to LIVE IN PEACE! There are PLENT of liberals that have NEVER seen a gun! Most killers here are NOT from britain! Serial killers are NOT common! If there are 2 guns per person, it is due to those that collect and run gun shops.

Just yesterday at my school, there was a guy who did that.
Doesn't the New Testament pretty much override the Old Testament?

What does that have to do with his fear-mongering?
The 22% decrease wasn't due to murder, which is what his post would have you believe.
I made a post about a week ago where I mentioned that online, it's people exactly from this type of society I get any positive response from. Which attracted me to it before I thought of the Christian fundamental thing. I guess it's more likely these are people who are ostracised by the conservative, small-town, small-world culture in which they are living, considering the issues said people tend to have.
Case in point is this girl from South Carolina. A relatively conservative part of the US. She lived in a place of only about 1,000 people. In the middle of nowhere; from where she lived the obvious larger centre locally was Charleston, but that was 50 miles. She spoke of how she had to go to church to fit in in her town (well, village really). It's a Southern Baptist church. The girl was gothic, so I wondered how she would fit in. Also she was bisexual, was abnormally obese, and suffered from schizophrenia. I wondered how she coped. She probably didn't.

I can match that, here in Scotland.
Yes, I bump into these people not everywhere, but still seemingly a lot of places. This is exactly the sort of thing my church, minister and congregation wishes to expose me to, as if I'm not a complete Christian otherwise.
I'd heard of the Toronto Blessing. I wasn't aware of Brownsville, or Pensacola, but to that you can add St. Andrews, Scotland.
Last year I went to a Christian conference, or rather was persuaded into going, with some of us from church, which was held in St. Andrews, the home of golf. I thought, well why not, I'm pretty up for this. I didn't know what to expect. Nothing could have prepared me.
I was stuck in a room with 12 people who were all laughing, falling about etc., as the article described. This went on for a few hours. All except me, that is. I mean I wasn't particularly "struck" in this way.
Another day there was a healing session. My minister harassed and harassed and harassed me into this healing session, because of AS. It was so overwhelming that I really had no choice but to participate. I was forced into it under the misguided impression AS is an illness. Although, now that I was in this healing session I was open minded to it, as far as I can see I'm still an Aspie.
Our minister was saying he fully intended to run our church in the charismatic way the article describes. We are a Church of Scotland congregation. Presbyterian... it's supposed to be a conservative reformed church. Not ours apparently.
A vibrant Christian faith has been a wonderful, and healthy thing for me. This sort of fundamentalism, dogma, spiritual abuse and other things that have happened have not been good or healthy. I don't have the above experience every day but tend to get a lot of the dogma etc. I'm now having to do a lot of bouncing back from these experiences.
Fundamentalism is alive and well here in Scotland. It's not just the US south you know.
