I also chose the picture hoping that someone I knew in high school might be an Aspie and wander in here and recognize me, but I realize it's a bit of a long shot. It'd be kinda cool, though.

I have a recurring fantasy to write the book that will tell everyone I have ever met that I apologize for being autistic without proper notice. I want to tell all that I came in contact with that had I known, I would have tried to not be such a trial. That I was mistaken in my eagerness to make human contact to take far too much for granted, I didn't understand your faces warning me, I didn't understand you dropping into formal phrases meant you wanted me to take a hike. To my professors . . . well, I guess you could have been a little more on the ball, too.
To all the men that loved me, what did I know? Nothing, actually. And to all the men I loved, I am sorry I couldn't just turn it off when it was convenient for you.

and more, I am sure.

Merle

I'd go with that, and I wouldn't bother with the opinion of your functioning; it's far too hard to define someone has "high" or "low" when there's so many things affected, and each thing can vary in severity (not to mention the chronological age of the person). For example, my father would be considered way higher functioning than me based on a few superficial reasons, but he has far greater problems with perspective taking than I do (which is one of the important pieces of "autism").

I understand the distinction based on learning disabilities, which is important when the individual is of a school age (LFA equating to a global IQ of under 75, and HFA equating to higher than such), but other than that, it's far too muddled due to so many areas affected in each person with an ASD.

so, Neh-SHAAM-ah RU-aach, is the pic on your avatar, you?

Yes, that was me at 17. When I was a senior in high school, a friend took a series of black and white photos of me for a graduation present. I still have them. This one is my favorite.

Note the embroidery on the shoulder of my shirt. It was a peasant shirt, the kind we used to wear back then. My mother always criticized me for wearing a "potato sack" for a shirt, but that only made me all the more attached to it. :D

Nice picture- you´re beautiful! (And I guess I´m about as clueless as noahveil23, because when you first appeared on WP I thought that blond, short haired avatar you had was really you! Now someone else has it, which is really strange to me...I always jump when I see it. But I like this picture so much more).

Oh, and just for the record, I also consider myself a "hippie chic".

Thank you for the compliment! I also noticed that someone else started using the short-haired avatar, which is what led me to start using actual pictures of myself. I'd get really confused when I'd see the person's posts; I'd think "I didn't write that..." We Aspies seem to be quite visual.

I'm going to start a hippie chick thread. Stay tuned.
