I believe people with Autism are more prone to SENSORY overload. Anyone is open to overload of any kind, but because our sensory system goes a wee more crazy than most humans, we get overloaded from the stress of it.

Overload occurs from stress. Many times we get stressed out from our abnormal (in terms of non-average) sensory processing systems.

Stress --> overload. But since Autism is so frequently associated with anxiety disorders, we're probably prone to all KINDS of overload, not just sensory.

That's my 4 cents.
If you think about in terms of energy used to manage various systems, for example emotional, communication and physical, when one system is overloaded, it makes it more difficult to manage the others. So an autistic person who is physically overloaded will have difficulty managing emotions and communications. There is a higher probability of sensory or physical overload for autistic folks. Lets be bad and compare people diagnosed with borderline personality characteristics. BPCs (vs Autism Spectrum Characteristics - ASCs) have a higher probability of emotional overload. Interesting that there is a commonality of attempting to manage overload via sensory stimulation. And both ASCs and BPCs have difficulty communicating. BPCs are famous for taking things personally, while ASCs are famous for not getting the same communication. This makes me wonder if increasing commuication skills could address some issues of overload. Caution - I haven't thought any further than this so feel free to take this apart. I won't take it personally :) .
Also, those are not the only systems. Though I am not sure the others are as prominent when it comes to issues of overload.

Although i'd like to believe autistics and aspergers are a step UP the evolutionary scale, i'd say we are just different. Only time will tell if we are evolutionarily superior to NT's. So far, NT's and idiots in general are breeding a whole lot better than us. If you want autistics to overpopulate NT's we are going to need to design some way to breed better than NT's.

Also another arguement that autistics are not superior is that they are not necessarily happier. However i think this is just because our species has a low population and we are discriminated against by the larger species. And that if we were more accepted we'd make a killing ^_^.

I also think if over the next couple hundred years we take over the planet that the civilizations and accomplishments that we will make regularly will make this current era look like the goddamn stoneage.

But those kinds of views aren't very popular. All through out history there were classes of people who thought they were the TRUE humans, and that the peasents were just trash. Granted that our difference is probably genetic, a group of people thinking they are superior to another for any reason has not been unprecedented.

This is what I am trying to do with my theory - demonstrate that the differences are points in space on the same continuu...(what is the plural of contimuum?

agree but i think it will be difficult for reasons you have cited and some you haven't.

Quote:

this would another reason. NTs feel superior because their style of existence is dominant.

Nomaken,

To breed requires the ability to communicate, both verbally and NON-verbally. Not necessarily. You may skip the pleasantries and get right down to the fore-play, as in b'FORE play.
What has society stated are the norms for fornicating?

Not pay for it, (in America, except Las Vegas)
-yes but its fun! why can't i just get on like i would a roller coaster ride, feel my stomach drop, get exhilarated and get out once the ride has concluded.
-no, there are proper methods and strict rules of courtship. If your a woman and take such a narrow view, then you are a slut. if you are a male, then god-speed.

Doing the Nasty, getting down and dirty,- all negative descriptions.
They also say, Making love- But that involves too much work and 'start-up' hurdles that Assies (can i say that?) are ill equipped to initiate. Because Making Love is a process which involves abilities in Communicating One-on-One.

Procreating through physical actions (trying not to be edited) is a serious undertaking in which a person should take the time to think about the ramifications of such behavior. One should get to know their partner beforehand and decide, mutually, if you are ready for the responsibility.

Ahh, hell, just screw it! f*****g (rhymes w/ trucking) is communicated by design to keep folk like you and other Assies (really, is that bad?) from enjoying its fruits. They make it so damned hard (literal, difficult) for non social types to accomplish.

I cited Faulkner at an earlier time, and in his work The Sound and the Fury the brother was Autistic. (benny, i thinkl), but the book proves an important point. As recently as your grandparents generation (far less than 200 years ago) In a modern, liberal, forward thinking Nation like America they would Castrate Autistic people, so they would not reproduce. Those scary little freaks. Why would they do that back then, if, they are only learning now that many /most/all autistric traits are genetically passed within families. Were they just trying to err on the side of caution?

What is the purpose of these things as it applies to modern terms for Autistic labelled individuals?

You are still being castrated by design, so the balance of powers remain controllable. And those who have a say in such matters, continue to have a say. Thanks to an accepting populus. You reproduce, i reproduce, we all do it. After time the world population shiftsfrom accepting type behaviors to people like us, people who do not accept truth for the fact it was stated, but rather by a difficult journey of trial and error, and a bound, singleminded determination to seek the truth.

And that, in short, would be revolution of a progressive nature.

You seem to be an excitable and naughty young thing. I could be mistaken, but i reason that i am not. My question to you is, "how easy (not as in tart) should it be for you to find a 'good time' partner? But in actuality how hard (not as in blood surges) is it for you, given the rules laid out by a fearful society?"

It should be easy, i bet MoOC would purchase a plane ticket to New Zealand for you.

disclaimer
in no uncertain terms am i making any effort to join two members of Wrong Planet into an immoral act such as fornification outside of marriage , nor am i prostituting one member, nor do i mean to represent another and their finances spent on the purchase of a plane ticket to a foriegn land, nor does MoOC and myself work in cooperation in any effort to ascertain any real or imagined benefit of whoopie, nor do i intend on using the name MoOC in any other representational manner other than for a humerous example (the first and easiest name to pop into my head and which helped illustarte an example) and may it be further known that Wrong planet is only a vehicle in which people us as a tool to share ideas, and may they in no way be accountable for any views stated on their freedom seeking website, and in no way meant as supporting the views of SB2 or his affiliates.

These are the reasons, i and i alone believe, that humanity has stalled in the evolutionary cycle, and likely near the end of our reign as supreme overlords of the planet earth.

in my word pad i will title this soap box oration as; procreating freaks of nature

i am and i am proud of it.

Well i prefer a petite girl, but most are pretty to me, and i'm only attracted to really cute guys. Either way you gotta be willing to cuddle til the sun come up a few times in a row. As for the mind, you gotta be pretty open minded, and understand how and why people are all inherently selfish, but thats okay, because people like making people happy. I'd prefer if you were introspective enough so that you understood a lot about yourself, and i'd love it if you are interested in psychology. You probably are going to have to be comfortable with drug use and consumption because i am quite the hedonist ^_^.
I don't think my main difficulty with finding my mate is in the rules of society, but in the available mates. I don't know if they exist. Probably a lot more men than women, and i'd prefer a women.

I'm sure it would as long as the effort to learn to increase communication skills doesn't increase stress beyond the point of bearing. Look at talk therapy. Why else does it work? People communicate their stresses and usually end up feeling improved-- at least for a little while.

In my own case, poor communication skills have been the frequent bane of my life. If the other person were more trained in drawing out my speech-- since sometimes it's so difficult to put into words-- maybe even guessing to help me put it into words, to have the utmost patience, and to not interrupt even when it sounds like I've finished talking, it would be incalculably helpful.

But such people rarely exist these days. Not even in therapists, since talk therapists aren't used to even having THAT much patience. And they interrupt so much and disrupt my slow-flowing train of thought. :x

I think all autistic people could do with some healthy speech and communication therapy, even those who don't have obvious speech problems like many Aspergers.

i click on a link within a link and its me staring back.

I am flattered.

Sorry Neuroman (may i call you Neuroevolved ?), i am currectly in standby mode as far as new thoughts about this topic go. I am absorbing like the little yellow square sponge that i am, all the exciting differences in the different people around here. Hoping to expand my theory.

At present i still stand firm that most problems are due to 'start up' difficulties, with most of the descriptions being secondary effects. Cause to effect. The primary 'start-up challenge, i believe is need for truth or honesty in our own right. And we mistakenly view our lust for truth as anti-social behavior. In an effort to fit in with the lying, more popular, aspect of society, we deny our basic structure. Having denied our basic structure we bring upon ourselves a multitude of different symptoms, which are displayed differently and to varying degrees in each of us, seekers of truth. Also, the fight which rages between our real self and our desired 'normal' self is another major contributer, and complicates matters , giving us these overload problems.

I submit that, those of us who have had the ability to move closer to the 'norm' through the art of lies and/or manipulation, are the ones of us who has the most demons to battle. Because of the internal endfighting, these folks are the ones who are actually regressing the most. They have a better ability to cope within society, but the false act is eroding their inner self.

I believe that each is born unique. Every person owes nothing to any other person. Each person must nurture themselves and be who they were intended to be. The example you set for others by your actions and honesty will illicit reaction. Over time if you hold on to your guns and be true to yourself then you will illicit change.
That is based upon another premise i believe.
In 99 out of 100 instances if the group is given all the facts and deliberate freely, within the marketplace of ideas, the group will opt for what is right (true).

a little too metaphysical for me. my sensory integration problems don't seem related to my adherence to truth.

i have moved closer to the norm by managing some of my sensory integration issues. leaves me more comfortable but still odd. my demons come more from a lifetime of others' oppression and abuse of me. it becomes harder and harder to trust people when they are defensive and trying to beat you into a box emotionally. By gosh, if you don't fit this box of mine that describes the world, then i'll make you fit.

i used to believe this but sadly it has not been the case. too many other factors play in - people are unlikely to have all the facts, and even if they have nearly all the facts they still read them through filters designed to leave out intolerable information. finally what is right and true is not always advantageous - yet another filter through which people interpret information and form their behavior.

Goota read and fly kids sooccer game, answer rest later,

Given ALL the facts and to deliberate FREELY.

most times we only receive half truths, media bias or agenda. And the inaccurate spin from the white house. we rarely receive all the facts but the logical mind can take what is known to be true and sift throught what has been portrayed as true and likely find what is real.

As a group the truth can be reached even better through sophist like debate

To me it is quite clear that Aspies are not a new species, but an old species. It is anti-evolutionary to propose that a wdie range of traits that are currently under strong negative selection would be the next stage in human evolution.

Read more here:

We're not a new or old anything. We're just different. And many of our traits can be seen throughout the entire human race, throughout much of history. Abnormality is part of the status quo and is just what happens. Change.

Not to mention, we're all still the same species. We can breed viable offspring, despite some of our reluctance to, hehe.

What it means it short;
Be true to yourself, and yourself will be true to you.

Too many people attemt to be something they are not, just to fit in.
High-School (sorry about eliciting a painful period):
every kid spends time trying to be something they are not; acting a certain way as a result of peer pressure, picking on other kids, trying drugs, and more.
The point is you cannot lie to yourself.
I am guilty of picking on others, and it used to eat me alive.
Their was a kid who was alone all the time and whenever he got pissed he would swing his backpack at someone. And justifiably so.
I remember having been party to the teasing, and then i had this out of body experience where i was just watching it unfold.
The absolute helplessness; this loner kid trying to be brave to a mob of 'cool' kids having their fun, him just swinging his backpack like a weapon. And then in slomotion, i rememberhe got this one guy on the hip, and even slower i watched the boy go over and push him down. Next thing i remember was laughter and the loner kid had run away , about 50 ft. No, i hadn't tried drugs, yet, and it was not a black-out.
I think it was more of an inner truth demon battle going on with me.
I was forcing myself to see what was really happening, and giving myself both sets of facts allowing me to make a determination as to the actions and the truth behind them.

Shortley thereafter i found out that the loner kid was named David. I decided to relieve myself of the pain of guilt and i approached him. I just wanted to say i was sorry for my part. He replied, dont push me, DONT PUSH ME EVER! and then he swung his back-pack at me and ran.
I was never able to relieve myself of the guilt.
i was not allowed to give him the truth.

I didn't push him, but it was clear that he saw the mob as having one face, and he is correct since i acted no different than any one else. i had lied to myself that it was better to be 'in' with the 'cool' kids rather than have some compassion.
I still think about David, sometimes, and right now i feel like crap. It has been 21 years and i know who i am, but my demons still get to me, he wouldn't ley me release them.
But what does he have to live with? It is not fair that actions of others, even if its a majority, get to dictate the lot of another, shape their slant about the world, their world.

On the upside, i do remember 2 year after graduation, i was driving by the local community college and i saw David, with his back pack, heading towards the bus-stop.
it made me feel good, seeing him, and noting that he never gave up in himself.
