Yeah wiggers and chavs are different. In Australia we have lads, which aren't quite chavs too.
I hate labels, though years ago I would have fallen under the emo label. People would probably call me nerd or geek now. Meh.

Honestly, I feel that these sort of labels are quite pathetic. The saddest part is that, in their naiscent and ill concieved attempts to establish their own identities and rebel against the system, these youngsters actually play into the hands of the powers that be by willfully joining what are essentially pre-fabricated niche markets. (sorry about the run-on sentence).

well I don't really see them as labels I see the more as you finding a image that you fit and hanging around others like you I am skater bmxer dude most of my best freinds are skater or bmxer or both like me my 5 best freinds of all are 1. (male)skater gangster 2.(male)disco king skater 3. (female) emo goth punk 4.(male) skater punk 5.(female) goth emo skater

so yeah these things help you fit a certin group image if everyone was the same = boring if everyone difreant no one will have anything in common. if you are in between and have a image that others can relate to things are good not everyone fits these I agree but those who fit one have a group of freinds to hangout with.

people are just people. i don't really care what people do so long as they are happy and their happiness is not commensurate with hurting and killing others or living things.

if someone wants to join a group or subculture - well - cool.
had it ever occurred to those who have criticised others for belonging to various subcultures, that WP actually comprises a very similar thing? it is a subculture of "ASPIES" who congregate not at venues but virtually, on WP.

we as ASD people can be viewed from the outside in exactly the same way regardless of whether or not our issues are voluntary or involuntary.
i've seen it in 12 step programs too. baggin' everyone for being in groups that are different to 12 step stuff. (in NA and AA people go on about "out there in the real world" - which translates to "al those people who are not afflicted wtih addiciton tendencies." Some also talk about "straighties" etc. it irks me. THat is precisely the sheep mentality! that is the paradox.

inclusion for all i say. nt or as or asd.

what i do know, is that as ASD people, we are often lucky that we are not so DEPENDENT on the group or on the subculture for approval. Do we have more inner resilience in this regard, becuse for us, who we are is just not a form of currency that can be traded in, as it might be for some others? i think so, in my case.

Maybe This is our wonderful strength - we are deeply individual. That seems to be where i think i am very, very lucky, as are other people on the spectrum. sadly, it can come at a cost, especially when people bag US for being WP aspies etc.

everybody has a room in god's hotel.

:D

yeah..in High School and Junior High, I was despondent enough about being different, that I didn't want to call any more attention to myself.

In fact, it kinda got under my skin. I predate geeks and nerds, and actually remember the original hippies. I remember the 60s; I called it Grade School...;)

I suppose I have Goth leanings, I did listen too much to the Cure back in the day...;) But tattoos and piercings; I never would have made it as a teen today, I like my skin the way it is...;) Doing a whole bit just to fit in made me feel a bit 'phony' (to use a Holden Caufield expression...;)

It was a big mantra back in the 70s that everyone was trying to be different; what tickled me was that everyone was different in exactly the same way...;)
