I don't write this to criticize anyone, just my thoughts.
I often reflect on the question why people ask certain questions and not others, and in which situations or such.
I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have been asked why if he were a girl, but I don't think that's too unreasonable - though as you say it's a natural thing to want, generally women seem to want it more than men do.
Curiously, though I'd love to raise a kid one day, I don't even like babies, I find them rather dull, unlike children.
Edit: I can relate to the OP's frustration, that due to biology, circumstances, etc one feels fatherhood is something unattainable.
