Same goes for me... I can't multitask, nor can anyone talk to me while I'm doing something else.
The only weird thing is, if I'm at the computer I always have lots of programs open, and I do fine in multitasking between them.
It's not like I can read and watch movie at the same time, but usually I have music running, and controlling it while reading on the internet...

Strange... So I guess being on a computer count for a single-task, even though you are running many programs at once...

I do time-division multiplexing, instead of multitasking...;)
I have problems with the missus, because she's NPDD (Noun pronoun deficit disorder), and when the TV is cranked up, I have a really hard time following her (to be honest, TV has spent decades learning how to grab and hold your attention).

But then I have problems with distractions; I always hear muzak in grocery stores, restaurants, etc).

Yeah. I can't think and talk or think and listen at the same time.

If it is just something I am doing just to do, I multitask like mad, if I am doing it because it is part of my habits or interests, I am unreachable. Talking is rarely understood by me in fullness.... I've had dreams, lol, where people were talking to me and it was like blabbling

Not quite, single core processors can only work on one program for a fraction of a second before moving onto the next in the queue. Unless you CAN work on both at the same time, say play a game AND type up and essay, then this would qualify. Dual/Tri/Quad cores can do more

Why is it people like to talk to me when I want to watch something interesting on TV. It gets so bad, I distribute between the two and I can't understand either. Although driving with a phone to the ear is illegal in this country (UK) I once tried it and had a hard time concentrating on the conversation. I could hear, but not understand. I think others would have the opposite problem. When playing any games on my computer, I have to pause so much, I just leave on pause and wait for them to finish, then I can't get back into the game. Why is it so hard to leave me be?

When I'm at work,I have to concentrate intently and find it annoying that colleagues seem to
be able to chat incessantly without it affecting their own concentration.I've got round the
problem by considering the incessant chat to be a part of the 'work' itself instead of a social
situation.

yes, the same. probably not as bad as others but I do not like driving with music on or people talking to me, etc. Same with me focusing on something....explains why I have problems doing things when in the college cafeteria...too busy with social stuff..

EDIT: and me reading things. I pause whatever Im watching when people come in

When I was at the supermarket I grabbed the mans grocery bag walking off thinking it was mine. A week ago I went out just to go to the hospital to pick up my presciption that I needed because I'd ran out. So I go to outpatients pick up my script, take to the hospital pharmacy. They said it would take half an hour and so I went for a walk on a other level and bought some chewing gum from the canteen. Then when I got home I realised I didnt pick up my script from the pharmacy.
It was the only reason I went out for. I havnt had medication all week and I have hardly slept. I have been awake for two nights straight.

It bothers me for someone to talk to me while I am working on something else. I have to zone them out. Sometimes, a loud television can interfere with me too if I am trying to concentrate on something.

Many times when I am working on something like my novel, I will go upstairs to the quiet environment of the bedroom. There, I can hear nothing from the noisier part of the house.

Being diagnosed with Asperger's myself, I tend to think it would be common for noise and conversations to interfere with us when we are working on our own thing.

It depends on how difficult the task is, or how much effort it requires, or how absorbed I am.

Eg. I can talk to others when knitting (though I have to look at the knitting), but if I drop, say, 10 stitches and someone asks me a question, I have to say, wait a bit, and first after having gotten the stitches in order, I can answer the question.

Or I may say the same thing if people start talking to me when I am reading a paper, but only if I am very absorbed in it.

I remember I had a friend over when working on a pony custom. I realised I could not work on it and talk to her at the same time. Same with my painting, I can't have anyone else in the room with me because it totaly puts me on edge and destroys my consentration and creative ability.

We aren't multitaskers.
