I never wrote, nor brought anything for any of the assessments I've had (whether Asperger's, Autism or OCD). I just showed up.

They asked the questions, and I answered them.

First, you need to seek for a psychologist who is willing
to listen to you.

I did the same thing you did. I prepared amount of
information for my psychologist but he just randomly
flipped over the papers. He continued asking me some
F**king questions that have nothing to do with Asperger.
He didn't care about what I prepared at all.

The truth is that some psychologists only want to know
what they want to know instead of what patients want to
show them.

Oh I don't doubt that this time I have found the right psychologist. This woman is an autism spectrum expert and sees child and adult AS cases fairly often. I feel real good about my appointment with her next Wednesday! :)

Just an update: I had my appointment yesterday and she loved that I made notes. I told her "I'm sorry but it got out of hand, and it's up to 20 pages." She said that was fine and she promised to read it all. Everytime she would ask me a question I would answer it and say "I covered that in my notes as well". I wasn't trying to get out of answering her questions but it did come in handy as a bit of a security blanket. She thumbed through them as we talked.

Anyway, after my appointment she told me that by my behaviors I am definitely on the spectrum, and she was surprised I didn't have a language delay because she said I didn't have the typical Asperger's speech pattern. I've heard that speech pattern, but like I told her I have also heard people with Asperger's talk who did not have the same pattern. She said in the cases she has seen, people who end up labeled AS tend to have that speech pattern and other small behaviors which set them apart from those who end up labeled PDD-NOS. But she did tell me that it will all get ironed out when I go back in 3 weeks for my full assessment with her and a clinician. She told me I am very high-functioning but that she could see how it is still affecting me in my job. She said she was quite surprised by the amount of stereotypies I seem to have for being as high-functioning as I appear. This particular psychologist only deals with people who are on the spectrum, and it showed by the way she was looking for the smallest mannerisms.

HAH! I did this. And I typed it and kept going over it and over it and over it. Because with the pencil I kep erasing.

So I gave her a huge paper....it was funny.

But she mostly focused on the things like scial issues and empathy. I have empathy and I was honest. Socail issues are better now, but there was a time I was mute. So I had to work very hard.

It's weird to be verbal and autisitc because pepole are lke no yo're not ! And hten I wonder AM I?

I'm so glad to hear that it's going well for you. Sounds as though you have a good psychologist who wants to help you. I will be interested to hear how the next part goes for you, since it appears to be a different process to what I'm going through. Best of luck!

Awesome, sbcmetroguy!

I am encouraged that you actually found a Dr who seems to know what they are talking about. When reading this previously, I had my doubts as to whether the Dr would even read the notes but I am very heartened to hear how she reacted to them. Seems like she really does care about what you think which is rare among Drs these days. I'm really glad for you :D

Thanks, all. What's so impressive about this doctor's resume is the fact that she was the first doctor in my area to diagnose AS 17 years ago and has worked with AS and other spectrum disorders since.
