I cannot say I am a full fledged member of either group; although, I do recognise the two groups.
I embrace my Aspiesness, being proud of it. I like a lot of time alone but I also like to socialise.
With other NDs (neuro diverse), I am fine. AS you can imagine though, with NTs I can have difficulty, maybe less than most Aspies, but difficulty none the less. I wish I could be better at understanding the social rules and cues that I have not taught myself manually. If I did I could use the understanding when I wanted and not when I didn’t.
I do not want to become an NT, but I recognise the necessity to communicate effectively with NTs as they are mostly who I meet, and I would like to get on better with some of them.
It is usually in new jobs that I feel I need to be better able to fit in, and not doing so has held me back in jobs in the past.
I have no strong desire to fit into the mainstream for the sake of being part of the in-crowd. It is more about versatility and can sometimes be down to being genuinely interested or sometimes selfishly wanting to get on so to not lose out on something.
P.S.
I forgot to saythat I hate my sensory overload issues and i want to stop having them
