I only have a small camera,right now,so have limitations,-saving for DSLR..thought about a XSi,but they seem kinda limited,too,maybe not strong enough,woulf love to go frame full sensor,seeing so,me great deals on 2nd Canon 5D 1s,etc...

Any suggestions ?

You might want to get a less-professional dslr to start with. I started with a Canon 350d (the rebel) and now I've got a Canon 40d. I think my next one will be a Canon 5d II. I'll only go full frame if I do get full time work. It's up to you but they are a little bit more complicated to work. I love my 40d. It's got a fast lens (24-70mm f/2.8 and 50mmf/1.8) but the frame rate is pretty fast too. I know photo journalists that use it instead of the Mark III bodies.
It's better to get a good lens than a good body too.

Thanks, typing is torture, doing Hi-jack logs, etc,to see why my laptop is throwing a fit.
 My son cleaned the keyboard out...put 4 keys back in the wrong places....phew.....

sbcmetroguy,
I totally understand what you say.....I have issues with taking photos of people, they end up directing ME,instead of the other way around...so I use a long zoom..and do lots of nature, animals, bugs and gen. macro stuff.
Checking to see if I have the same difficulties as you with regard to composition, etc.
I prob. need to start watermarking,as my photos have also turned up in other places..
-lol writing your own letters....cool.

garyww,
"I do like the camera as a 'dustance stick."
- Me,too.EXACTLY how I see it-Feel invisible,all dressed in black,
-doesnt bother me to crawl all over the stage, but I had to quit performing in a band, too shy...figure that,eh ?

Thanks,Prof_Pretorius,
Not sure I create art-still a beginner,until I know exactly how and why a shot works...may try a few I like,see what folks think.

RoisinDubh,
=you sound a lot like me,if you don't mind me saying so-I took it up to be able to work alone, but was quickly so fascinated,
it became a huge part of my life.
I think our different take on the world makes us good at this, rather than being a drawback, but learning is quite hard-anything with complex instructions can faze me.
I'll look into copyright,sounds a good idea,ta.
Curious what you like to photograph best ?

Greentea,I envy you-can only imagine the amazing sights..I study online,not in a school,too.

johnners, while I don't have the same issues, often feel conspicuous myself, and liked what Marlyn Monroe said on the subject
goes something like,"i just imagine I'm invisible, then everyone else treats me like I am"
works for me..be careful crossing roads,tho !

Padium Thanks so much for inviting some friends in,that new camera sounds incredible,I'll look it up=but like mobile phones, may be old hat in a decade..we will see !

Inventor, you are way ahead of me,but found I can write for the web and take my own pics to order, for articles-more $ :D
BTW,nice avatar,,do you ride at all ?

sunshower, your avatar is exquisite ! Small and close-up are my favorites, too. You ARE an artist, for sure, and look forward to seeing that journal.

zen_mistress, tech. stuff IS a bore....but animals are great,my cats are close-by and good practice.

Duppy,I adore abandoned buildings,we have a graffitti-covered shell, just down the road,I go there every few months to shoot.

pensieve, that can get to me,too-especially if its a big show- just go off on my own for a smoke to depressurize, then return when I'm cool...
I have no editors/friends to push me,but do self-crit,and often am sad over my results..and frustrated trying to explain to non=photographers why the shot they want looks like @#$% in my view...lol

WillMcC,Saw your photos-cool,they are a great way to document your trips-always do the same when i travel.

fullfathomfive,
Your photobucket is quite a collection-very much like the one with a moon, landscape and two tiny people.

BellaDonna, its hard getting snapped all the time, you and my family would prob. sympathize with each other !

If I missed out anyone, please excuse..getting late,my eyes are tired....

My camera is a Sony Cybershot,H9-first one, chosen for me by my bro,has quite complex controls, shoot on manual 90%,auto only if I need to be a quick grabshot.

I'd love to get a 30D or 40D Canon, but prices are higher than some very good 2nds...we will see when I have the cash, what is out there....its aways away-,just starting part-time work to pay for it. :D

Rebel still looks very good, and that 50mm lens would be my first choice .

Does anyone else seem to adjust their settings backwards ?...noticed I tend to this ,and my first shot is usually the best,
if I think about it,less good.....hmmm.

I have Sooo many cat shots, they are such amazing animals, sense moods so acutely...

RarePegs,

I have a few on http://esszee.deviantart.com/

Pensieve, I know what you mean-this is ,"Cheese", (my wimpy ginger tom)..he came from a storm drain, about
5 months ago...and is my favorite of all time.

Photography is part intuition for knowing when to take the shot. Some things you just get good at predicting, and that is one of those prediction things. All the times I see a good picture to take, I don't have a camera on me.

I also post my photos to Flickr MarlinsGirl's Photosets

I've been taking pictures since I was about 10 years old. Right now I'm the Official Photographer of the Village of Wellington. I take pictures of all their special events. The last event I did was the Father/Daughter dance.

Thanks - and that was a mobile phone photo! I walk past those statues most days on my way to the nearby bus station after work.

That comment reminds me so much of Sigourney Weaver's character in Snow Cake: "Sparklies! She bought me sparklies!" I knew nothing of that film or of the autistic association with sparkling or spinning things etc when I took these light trail shots:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/johndmcdon ... 759905382/

They involved jumping up and down and shaking the camera in different directions, both in a newly-opened shopping mall in Belfast and outside Portcullis House in Westminster.

i can see holding something could be very comforting to hide behind... i thought very seriously about becoming an architectural photographer, because you dont have to speak to buildings like you do shooting people!!
but you still have to get contacts to get comissions and schmooze with people a lot, so gave up on the idea.
i still have millions of shots of- eg- door handles, architraving, chimney stacks etc- really so aspie when i think about it- no people, details of inanimate objects.

there is a nice lomo website- www.lomography.com- lomo's have a lovely effect, and are reasonably cheap, adn pretty robust.

you could also try the saatchi site, where you can post work for free and list a price, in the hope of selling it or getting picked up.

http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/yourgallery/

good luck!!

btw, if you are anywhere near i live in london and have an enlarger i keep meaning to freecycle. then you could do your own bw printing (use a bathroom); callotypes, cyanatypes and fiber paper are all great,a nd you might like to try liquid light. its photographic emulsion- paint it on ANYTHING, let it dry, then use like you would paper- its so cool! quite nice on pages of books, or fabric.

http://www.alternativephotography.com/p ... light.html

you, or anyone else wanting, are welcome- its a bit battered, but i tihnk it fine. an old gnome, and needs a breaker if you dont fancy counting seconds for exposures. ill check it properly if you are interested.

I got my SLR camera to photograph a meteor shower, but got obsessed by photography itself.

I did a course at the local college, which was ok, but the week we had to photograph a model was horrible horrible horrible - having to strike up a rapport with a total stranger in front of twenty other people... I mumbled and sweated and took some really crap photos. People are not my thing, even if I have a camera to hide behind

I stick to landscapes and flowers, birds and insects now, with the odd bit of astronomy thrown in. I'm thinking of going digital soon, Canon EOS 50D is favourite so far.
