Why walk slow when you can walk fast? Walking slow is a waste of time.

I'm inclined to agree, when I want to get somewhere why should I do so at a snails pace? It's not like I'm running, I just walk fast because I have better things to be doing then taking my time walking.

I have walked fast all my life until recently. I'm only 5'2", but I always was comfortable walking alongside guys who are 6'. It annoyed me that other people walked so slow.

Then, at age 30, I got pregnant. That really did a number on my body, and by the time I was 5 months pregnant, I could barely walk. Then, I was recovering from surgery, and pushing a baby in a stroller, then walking alongside a toddler...then pregnant with another....

So, I've never gotten back to being a fast walker. If I lost about 35 pounds, that would help. Damn Easter candy!

When I used to live near N.Y.C, it was refreshing to visit, because everyone walked fast and with purpose. The crowds weren't too bad, if you learned to follow the current. In fact, if you walked slow or dawdled, you increased the chance of being accosted by con artists or muggers, unfortunately.

Yes I do. My friend once told me to slow down. I walk a lot, and usually alone so I walk very fast.
I might walk slower if I want to take in the sights, to which a friend once said 'what are you looking at?'

Yes I walk fast. Fastwalking is rad. I need to have a good momentum going when I walk. Also, walking seems to create an inner monologue for me. I don't think I have one at other times, but when I'm walking nice and fast, I start thinking words to myself. It's kind of weird.

I hate being in the city, partly because everyone is walking SO FRICKIN SLOWLY..... it drives me insane, which makes me want to walk even faster to get out of there.

I do, but I'm rather tall so it isn't as surprising... but I can easily outpace others, especially if I am uncomfortable. Walking is cathartic for me.

Yes, I don't see any point in going anywhere slowly.

Is walking really fast part of being an Aspie or is it just us?

Yes! My friands HATE to walk with me because they can't keep up. That and I run them off the sidewalk because I can't walk straight to save my life. Haha.

I'm a VERY fast walker. In fact, I find it very, very difficult to walk slowly. 90% of other people are too slow for me and it frustrates me to have to walk with them. Even if I'm walking at what feels to me just like a steady, fairly leisurely pace, I'm told I walk fast. I think part of it may be that I'm also told that for a female, I have a very long stride.

Yeah! That's a problem I've been working on all my life. I can walk along with somebody in the city, turns to them and make a comment on something, only to discover that I make my comment to a total stranger. My company is usually distanced with several blocks in a matter of seconds. I struggle hard to keep a cool phase.

You can count me in. When I'm going shopping, I go at high speed from the one store to the other. But when I am with someone, I usually adapt my speed to the other person, but I can get frustated when they aren't going fast enough. I don't know why, but I think I'm going fast to avoid people and to return to safer places.

Yes, I walk fast too. In public places I often find myself passing most people. I never really gave "fast walking" any thought until I read this discussion. At shopping malls (which I can handle as long as they aren't too busy and noisy) I find myself moving at a very swift pace. I can recall that when I am with my family I move at their pace, but as soon as they say, "meet us back at the entrance at (whatever time)," I am off like a jet taking off from an aircraft carrier as I traverse from store to store. I just cannot make myself slow down. To move slow just does not feel natural for me.
