Not everyone is totally lacking in self-awareness.

The pre-requisties of the diagnosis involves interviewing family members..it's not my opinion. This can't be too difficult surely?
Says who? I can't see anything about it in the diagnostic criteria that you quoted. Can you please provide the source for your claim that family members must be consulted?
What about when family members get things wrong? Many people who knew me as a child would have attributed my lack of socialising to shyness rather than inability. Does this mean I should actually be diagnosed with social phobia despite not being socially anxious?
The source??? I am the damn source!! !! My mum was interviewed and this was pre-requisite of the diagnosis. the CLASS clinic(Autism Research Centre) in Cambridge,England will answer questions if you have any.
So I am to presume that you are an expert on autism diagnosis, and not simply someone who has incorrectly inferred that since his diagnosis was done in a certain way, any deviation from that way must produce an invalid diagnosis?
By the way, a request for your source means "what recognised expert are you quoting?". It's fairly obvious that you said your own words, I wanted to know if they were quoted from someone who is widely acknowledged as knowing what they're talking about.
Problem with me giving advice is there??????
Where did I say that I am an expert??
Seems you like to argue and annoy and offend. Please do not reply if you don't like it. You are spoiling the whole point of an open forum.
I'm sorry, but the point of an open forum is not, despite what you seem to think, "For everyone to agree with Davidgolfpro".
You aren't claiming to be an expert, but you certainly seem to think that you are the only person who is capable of being correct. Your advice may be well-intentioned, but it's coming across as you thinking that anyone who disagrees with you is either an idiot or making excuses.
Yes blah blah blah! lets all agree with you eh????? Master????
You certainly are doing a wonderful job of addressing the actual points that I'm making.

Hey! who snapped at you then?? Why do you have the need to criticise people who are giving their advice based on personal experiences??
If you want to start a fight and want to troll, then you really should see a Dr as you have anger management issues..you Sir are just a bully.
Move on !
I am disagreeing, not criticising.
Do you always take disagreement as a personal attack?

You have not had an official diagnosis and act like you have AS. Why haven't you been assessed???????
Wrong. I am officially diagnosed.

I don't know why they haven't but for many people here it is because they can't afford it.
Well she has had since 2005 to get a diagnosis arranged, and it's free. I had a email from the Autism association of America telling me this.

Well they are diagnosed. I didn't know.
I don't know why they told you it's free when it's not. They don't hand out expensive medical care free here. I've heard of people having to pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars to get diagnosed here.

This was my reply from the Autism Assication of America to my query how to get a diagnosis of Aspergers for free...................Dear David:
Contact a physician or local social services for information to get a diagnosis. Also contact the local autism chapter in your area. Sometimes local universities have a psychology department that review cases.
Go to the following link: http://www.myautismteam.com/
They have 30,000 parents that have contributed to the site with suggestions as well as 30,000 practitioners.
Contact the American Medical Autism Board http://www.americanmedicalautismboard.com, Telephone: 216 901 0441. Dr. Phillip C. DeMio is the USAAA Chief Medical Officer whose practice is in Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio and has patients worldwide.
Hope that helps.

No offense but seriously in this country it is very hard to consult a physican unless you have the money to afford it, or can find one that has a sliding scale fee meaning they won't charge you if you can't pay.
Not sure what good a social network for parents of autistic children is supposed to do for individuals with autism, seems like it would be more helpful to parents of autistic children.
And what is anyone here supposed to do with that last one? I am sure I could call them as much as I want but I wouldn't have the money to pay any of them to diagnose me.......and I am sure others here are in the same sort of situation as well. Its not as though one would just call them up and they'd be like 'sure we'll hook you up with a specialist free, and even find one for you in your area.' and since they are based in Columbus, Ohio it doesn't do me much good in Lakewood, Colorado.

Neurotypicals tend to forget a lot of their childhood. It seems to me as if autistic people tend to have better recall of biographical childhood memories.
Even so, even with stuff I do remember, I need to make an explicit connection between an autistic trait/thing/whatever and things I did as a child.
I did forget a lot, too.

You can get an AS diagnosis (and maybe a PDD-NOS diagnosis) without parental confirmation. Having a parent present to interview does make the diagnostic process more nearly accurate, but it's not a requirement, and for many it's simply not possible.

I probably don't remember a lot but I think I remember enough. What I don't remember I think I blocked out because I was bullied a lot and hated school so much. I pretty much had no friends and was very withdrawn and uncooperative in school. I think if I was a kid in school now I'd definitely get diagnosed with something.

I definitely remembered enough for my diagnosis.
More generally, I've had disagreements on a couple of occasions with NTs as to whether I accurately remembered my childhood from 3-4 years of age. They liked to link studies that showed that very early memories fade with time, and sometimes are replaced with confabulation. However, I've verified multiple such memories with my mother.
