What is your budget for scans/electronic copies? Surely a lawyers office is going to have a fee for these services.
What is your budget for storage costs?
Without this information it's pointless for you to ask one of the social workers next to you to make a phone call to the lawyers office in an attempt to resolve your issue of your brother's stuff.
Questions! Could he compromise and pay to have some of his stuff stored and dispose of the rest somewhere whether it is a landfill, auction house, or somewhere else? Why can't he pick out five of his most sentimental things and get rid of the rest?
We're autistic. We have issues with all or nothing thinking. But, if we're going to be able to do certain things in this world we have to somehow reduce that, right? I think ASS-P has issues with all or nothing based thinking. So do I.
Ok, so let's say he finds out what's there and then wants a few small items.. then ask the lawyer if they'd ship just the ___ and get rid of the rest. They might be willing to do that - but it might depend on how much money they've made off the whole file. If this has been lucrative for the lawyer he might have a staffer sort a couple things. If this is one big giant PITA for low profit, he might tell ASS-P he has to receive the whole lot and can sort it himself. Only asking the lawyer will tell ASS-P what his options are.

I figure the lawyer must be on a retainer to be handling any of this in the first place.
A question is, we know the brother had material possessions to bequeath, but how much money went along with those possessions to cover the expenses?
I doubt the lawyer is going to pay for shipping out of his own pocket for instance.
My family has had to have lawyers because of my special needs and insurance and so on. A lot of lawyers will change like a $50 consultation or administrative fee just for a quick phone call or email exchange.

IOW, SSDI is paid just once a month. How is ASS-P receiving it weekly?
This thread has turned into the usual poopshow, but to answer this question, he has been asked many times previously how and why his disability is paid weekly or biweekly (whichever, I can't remember) and he never really answers the question, usually will say he just wrote a long post and lost it.

He explained it recently. The SSDI payment goes to a (likely court appointed) conservator, who doles it out to him in weekly installments. Not that uncommon for someone with autism or other neurological/mental condition.
...i am exploring possible destinations for the stuff.

Thought of another option that hasn't been suggested yet:
Seriously - it is an option - and there's a reason it's recommended to some in some situations.. ie after a breakup or divorce.
Personally, after I was finished with a legal battle of sorts, I packed every last document & some firewood with me one NYE after work and setup camp on the beach at the end of Spit Road in Squamish, pitched my tent, built a fire, sparked a joint, cracked a beer, and proceeded to burn e v e r y t h i n g. There's something so very real and liberating about watching things that have been weighing you down go up in smoke. It's very.. cleansing. Bye bye stressful stuff, hello clear focused mind.
Something to consider. Plus it may be more fun than just sending an email instructing someone to discard things. Well, I'd find it more fun & satisfying, anyways. YMMV.

Ok, let's say ASS-P decides to do as you say and burn everything and ditch everything. Ok, he does that. Now What? What's next? And, how does he go from here?

Whatever he chooses to do with his life & time ??? That's the point of burning material things that have been weighing down your mind with stress.. to not have to think about or deal with them anymore. Done, over with, permanently gone.. reduced to ashes & sent skyward in a plume of smoke. He can then do whatever he wants whether it's focus on his health or carry on with self destructive behaviour, his choice. That's the beauty of freeing yourself.. freedom of choice to do whatever you choose next. Whatever he chooses to do he can then go about doing however he likes, but one thing would be certain: He would no longer have any worries about what to do with his brothers stuff.

FWIW to those regularly reading this thread: It's not just ASS-P that I recommend letting go of material things they no longer need or have never needed. I was at a friend's last night and he was talking about his plans to likely sell 2 of his 4 vehicles and buy one brand new one for the wife to use. We talked about various options & the least expensive ways to obtain a brand new, or near new vehicle. When it came to vehicle 3 of 4, he said his plan was to ship it off to Salt Spring Island (a few hours away) to store it at has dad's place. He hasn't used said vehicle (purpose built offroad 4x4 that's still street legal) for 1.5 years. I asked him how often he visits his dad's place - Never. I told him that the most likely thing to happen if he ships it over there is that it'll sit and rot, he'll never use it again, and it won't have any resale & useful value to others aside from maybe a few parts and that IMO the very best thing he could do is let go of the emotional attachment to that vehicle (just like his muscle car he's planning on selling) and accept that that period of his life is in the past now & sell it while it's still worth any money at all and someone else can still use it. I know it's not easy to do, but IMO it's the best move he could make so I told him so. He didn't shoot it down.. so he's considering it at least.
Anyways, my point is that my perspective of material objects has evolved to a point where I'm less and less attached to them and advise that others seek the same freedom for themselves when it's in theirs, and the objects, best interest to do so. It's a better way to live than hoarding stuff & things that only serve to create stress due to our indecisiveness to take action and let those things be free and re-enter the economy so they can be of use to someone else.

Hey Oatmeal, I've been tracking your posting and visit history to this forum after the puzzle piece thread because I'm confused about what keeps you here. Most here are sympathetic to your brother and his situation, and think badly of you for how you view a guy who is what he is. Now it seems you just lurk, and come out of the shadows because of some fixation on ASS P and his situation. And yes, I'm guilty there too, but its far from the only thing I comment on.
You are an NT who dislikes people like us, that much is clear. Are you just stalking this guy?
If you don't figure it out, it will be the document shreader and or landfill. I'm astonished the attorney held onto it this long, they don't do anything if there is no money in it.
As far as the DVDs and CDs go, if you got them they would be stolden faster than your phones and undies.
What I would do with your phone is literally tape it to your body under all your clothing. I do believe that those which were taken from you were taken by as you say, determined thieves, probably drug addicts, and you were simply an easy target.

That makes good sense. It limits his ability to spend it on magic beans. I was wondering how he was able to get KFC with it, since in most states you cant buy fast food with welfare money, but there are 5 that allow it, and CA is one of them.
