This is exactly what I said. If you want to receive help/therapy and get better, you must have an official diagnosis; no one will take you seriously if you are a self-diagnosers. This is why you must trust a specialist, though they can make mistakes, too(and this is the reason why my parents brought me more than one time to a psychiatrist; they wanted to be sure).

I'm not going to tell anyone regardless so how is that going to help me? Why does the bank need to know anything? Why should I tell my employer? I don't want them to know. My place of work is already very accommodating and it's no one elses business.

davidgolfpro you're being very judgmental of people that you have no idea what their circumstances are. Saying someone should just save up for it is in some cases like telling a homeless person they should just save up for a house. It's not productive.

It's fine is you don't believe people have the ability to accurately self asses but understand it is none of your business. If you're worried about public opinion then take a hard look at your own attitude.

this thread is a bout people posing as Aspies, you cannot self diagnose, unless you are an expert in spotting and assessing Autism spectrum disorders. Aspies react jsut like me, becuase I am an Aspie, but there are too many wannabe Aspies here, that then think they can argue for Aspergers, when they most probably do not have it.
I dont enter a thread about bi-polar or schizophrenia becuase i was not diagnosed with having those illnesses.

my attitude is fine, u cant see me, never met me, so keep your opinion for yourself.......do you officially have Aspergers?

davidgolfpro, one of the most moronic and outright mean things a person can do is assume that everyone else's experiences will automatically mirror theirs, and that any difference is due to deficiencies in the other's character.

This isn't true, and to think otherwise is ignorant and myopic in the extreme.

Walk a mile in someone else's shoes.

And as for the topic itself(thread necromancy aside)...

I got an official diagnosis, but I had to friggin work to get the screening. It would have cost me over $2500 if I hadn't worked to get insurance that could cover it. Not everyone is that lucky, I know.

That said, because a lot of us have to go through a lot to get that diagnosis, there's a bit of a subconscious "well why can't you do it, then?" as well as a slight feeling of superiority. Because if a self diagnosis is just as valid as an actual one, then why did we go through all that trouble at all?

(not that I actually believe this myself. Devil's Advocate for human nature).

The only reason for me to get an official diagnosis would be to get ssi. Other than that I don't see it doing me any good.

What jonny23 said.

This is the last place to show off a persecution complex for being an Aspie, bro.

Sagroth, you have your opinion and I have mine.

What happened then in your assessment?
