why are self-diagnosed aspies considered "posers?"

That is one of the most messed up things I ever read on this forum.

I am definitely not nt. There was clearly a lot wrong with me ever since I was a small child. It's not my fault that I was out of school before aspergers started getting diagnosed and that my schools and counselors failed me by not helping me or diagnosing me even though I was in special classes and schools and a mental hospital since I was 12 until I quit school.

You are an NT until you are officially diagnosed.

I support your right to believe what ever you want. I have not bullied you. I have only said that you are rude and judgmental. I tried to be nice about it too.

The only reason for me to get an official diagnosis would be to get ssi. Other than that I don't see it doing me any good.

And I think that is perfectly fine.

For some people, having the DX from a medical professional is important to accepting the "identity" of Aspie. I was one of those people.

But for some, the identity is already accepted and staring them in the face, and that's perfectly fine.

Invalidating them ecause they don't have the same sheet of,paper is silly.

Quite frankly, if someone thinks they're an Aspie, and are posting here of all places, it is because they've been through trials and tribulations in their life that leads them to identify with being Aspie. In other words, they went through some $#!?, yo.

This isn't like when some jerk bag on a 4chan gets called out for saying something moronic and throws out Aspie as a defense. This a community where people identify with a state of being. Calling them liars is rude at the very least.

This is the last place to show off a persecution complex for being an Aspie, bro.

Sagroth, you have your opinion and I have mine.

What happened then in your assessment?

Not all opinions are created equal, particularly when one person's opinion disenfranchises an entire subsection of a population just because.

My screening was a neuropsych. They confirmed higher functioning AS(possibly Aspie), OCD tendencies, and very intense anxiety.

Also apparently I am very smart.

There are no reports. This 23 years ago. They never diagnosed me with anything even though I have lots of problems.

Aspergers wasn't even commonly diagnosed then here.

I just want to say that I think that for what ever reason and what ever type of person they are most of the people that come here do so for help and acceptance. They may be wrong about who they are but that isn't for anyone over the internet to judge. Their search for answers does not belittle anyone else.

Worst is when there search is met with skepticism and anger by people who should understand what that is like. The majority of people here show a lot of courage in the face of a public that doesn't understand.

You still don't get it? I live in the US where you have to pay money or have insurance or you don't get medical care.

This is exactly what I said. If you want to receive help/therapy and get better, you must have an official diagnosis; no one will take you seriously if you are a self-diagnosers. This is why you must trust a specialist, though they can make mistakes, too(and this is the reason why my parents brought me more than one time to a psychiatrist; they wanted to be sure).

I'm not going to tell anyone regardless so how is that going to help me? Why does the bank need to know anything? Why should I tell my employer? I don't want them to know. My place of work is already very accommodating and it's no one elses business.

Most of the times, I don't tell it people, too. In fact, I don't want them to know it. However, I think it's a lot harder trying to improve on your own. And you need a diagnosis made from a specialist if you want to receive professional help. Only for this. Not for telling people you have it at work or at school.
