This happened when I was in high school. Maybe at work in Montana too but I don't remember. I do remember getting asked what is wrong and it was annoying.

yeah. smile. gah.

When someone told me that I'd try then they
would tell me it looks fake or like a scowl,
so I made a hate face on purpose and they
said "Now, your not even trying." and I
said "I know, I give up."

give me a valid reason to smile and I will.
make me happy.

Worst thing for me regarding smiling is photos when people ask me to smile. I don't photograph well

neither do I; unless I'm doing an intentionally idiotic looking smile, I look terrible being photographed.

My mom and I both had/have respectively this psychotic look to our smiles. My Dad's one of those guys who just doesn't want to be bothered with almost anything...ever...and you can tell.

I'm not a big smiler; my expression is usually quite neutral; I smile a bit when I've picked up on something, and realized it's really, really good.

Absolutely! And it pisses me off to no end. "Aaron, smile more, you'll be happier." I mean, WTF? I'm not unhappy, this is my normal expressions. I swear, some NTs are just so ignorant!

It happens to me all the time. Just yesterday some guy just randomly told me to smile while I was walking to my car in the college parking lot. And I even thought I was smiling at the time. WTF?

My wife/ fam. have commented occasionally on this about me.

Even though I do laugh a lot on the inside ; I've been told to cheer up or smile (esp. when people were at more liberty to do so in my younger years)

Ive heard this comment more than a few "he's just smiling on the inside then."

Smiley Gyrus topic

When I was younger. Now that I am way past middle age, people think I will mirror a smile if they "show" me. This does not work. I just do "eyeflash", like a baboon. :P

And even worse: It is fake.
I think photos from way back in time look a lot better - people stood there without clowning around, looking towards the camera waiting for it to take their picture, looking serious or neutral.
Smiling because a camera points towards you - ridiculous.

I wish my surroundings could understand that smiling on the inside is normal for some people.

I have had this in the past, but I just don't have a natural smile, I look very awkward when smiling.

I frown alot for no reason, which gets mentioned more.

I remember it happening at times. Hearing I didn't smile enough in high school I overcorrected and wound up nicknamed "happy" because I was constantly smiling. Back then I wasn't sure I had Asperger's, but had already saw a lot of Asperger's-related things in the history of the internet so I knew my parents were wondering about it (but not telling me which made me mad).

At some level I realized it even then but wouldn't admit it to myself until college.

people do not tell me to do anything because they know i will refuse to do anything except for what i want to do.

i smile when my face is gripped with mirth that i experience. very rarely, someone else may be involved, and i will look at them and retain my smile, but most often, i smile at something that is deep in my own mind and not seen by others.

I get asked " is something bothering you? " by friends, family when I don't smile. They think that I'm upset about something, when nothing is wrong all because of my flat facial expression.
