My parents are happy to pay for it - it means they feel less guilty about not getting me diagnosed earlier, and it also means they don't have to listen to me

You've got it made!... not to mention your parents well trained.
If only I could train my husband the same way. He doesn't listen to me even though I orally explode with verbose chatter sometimes because of bottling things up too much.
Hahaha! I am also familiar with that glazed 'you have been talking non-stop for an hour and I'm losing the will to live' look.

I think I'm trying to connect with people. I have so much inside my head, and I want to connect with others. That is why therapy is good. Someone is paid to listen to you waffle for a whole hour!

Who is paying for your "therapy"?... taxpayers or does it come out of your own wallet from money you had to work for?

Even if it was taxpayers, I'm not so sure that's a bad thing. We all deserve to have at least one person in our lives who will listen to us and try to help us, and I feel sorry for anybody who can't get that through the usual social channels. I've been there in my youth and it sucks.

haha i love that, both completely true from the oposite sides. And of course NT's are used to and have some skills in making a best guess based on limited information, where as aspies are used to and have some skills in analysing the information and ensuring it's meaning is fully understood and the resulting decision is completely accurate.

That's why good employers should want both :)

Yeah, yeah, I know... I can go on a bit...

I think my long posts are as much for myself as they are for anyone else. I use writing as a way of sorting out the thoughts that are swarming like gnats in my mind. If I can put it into words, I feel I have some sort of grasp on the information.

When I was young, I wrote little. Maybe because I didn't know what I was thinking. As I get older, I write a lot. Maybe because I still don't know what I'm thinking, but I'm trying to get there.

i am at either extreme, sometimes i write/talk a lot, non stop, making lots of view points and asking lots of questions, many of which i will subsequently answer myself! however, sometimes i am literally speechless, although my mind is still racing with thoughts, i somehow can't seem to write anything down or say anything out loud.

I'm the same. Someone I once knew bought me a fridge magnet because of it which said 'variety is the spice of life, one day annoy people, the next day ignore them'.

That's pretty irrelevent. What people do in therapy is for them and their therapist to decide. It's none of anyone else's business to decide for them or to question it. And the idea that it is other people's business if it's paid for by taxpayers is a form of discrimination against people who can't hold a job (and the reason they can't hold a job isn't anyone's business either). I see a lot of prejudice on these boards against unemployed autistic people and it's just not right.
