Well on a lesser scale I can kinda relate to that.....I remember when I was a kid I was convinced I was part cat and of course cats were my favorite animal and sometimes I did try and act like a cat because I did kind of want to be one. But it was on a lesser scale I did not constantly act like a cat and I didn't go to the extreme of licking people or anything.

Other then that though sometimes me and my siblings liked to make 'caves' out of blankets, pillows chairs and such so we could pretend to be various animals we even sometimes would eat things or drink things straight out of a bowl during this but that was just playing......we knew we weren't really animals. Except there was the time my younger brother was trying to convince me he was a bat at night and could still use his 'echo location' during the day...then I think that evolved into he was actually spider man at night and snuck out of his room every night by becoming a spider I could never tell if he was actually convinced of this or just trying to mess with people since sometimes with him its hard to tell but yeah that was all when he was a lot younger.

I am not really sure what the explanation of it is though.

Thanks everyone for the answers and advice, and for the person who asked if I was just curious or if this was causing a problem, it's mainly curiosity, I mean, it's pretty interesting! ;) But I've also been wondering for awhile if I should try and stop it or if it's healthy, or just....what it is or means...

If it's not really causing problems I wouldn't try and stop it...I mean my personal opinion is that its not good to stop self expression unless this self expression causes harm to people.

When I was about ten and going through my Garfield obsession, I acted just like Garfield the cat; walking on all fours, lying around on the furniture, wolfing my food at lightning speeds. I even gave up my bed for a while, preferring instead to curl up, knees and head tucked into my chest, on a pillow, and cover all of myself in a thin baby blanket in an effort to emulate the way Garfield slept. Needless to say it was rather painful. This lasted about a year, until my obsession switched from Garfield to Peanuts (at which point I started emulating Linus... at least he's human!) Anyway, the point is, as long as you can teach him the difference between when it's okay to act like a dog and when it's not, he's going to be fine. We could all use a little more imagination in this old world.

I can't truly relate to this in the same way but I wish I could. When I was younger I really wanted to be an animal just to know what it would feel like but not because of a particular connection to an animal.

I tried getting as deep into it as I could and I tried to figure out self-hypnosis as a technique to help me with it. I never got the hang of it and I ended up acting like various animals in my room trying to get so deep into it that I temporarily forgot I was human but it never worked.

A problem I experienced was that it turned out I had a fetish. My original motivation was imagination and curiosity but as soon as I got into it and my body reacted a certain way it frustrated me. How can I forget about my bodily awareness and replace it with another when the resulting bodily reaction keeps bringing my focus back to my human body?

I did get an orgasm from it but instead of making me feel good it frustrated me. It was too distracting and it pervented me from achieving and maintaining the hypnotic fantasy I desired.

I would feel a lot more fulfilled if I were like the OP's brother but not so much as a dog compared to more unfamiliar animals. The difference is that my desire is driven by a curiosity for unique and unfamiliar experiences. I just can't fulfill it as effectively as I could if I were a true Therianthrope.

Lycanthrope isn't the correct term in this case for those who have already used it.
