I hate calling places and I hate answering the phone.

I have found a few ways to reduce this anxiety. I make sure that every one who will call has my cell phone number. I have my cell phone ringer set to something relaxing, like enya. I can also see who is calling. I do not like mystery when answering the phone.

Let's just explain it this way: I am not a slave to the phone.

I have always disliked the phone...when someone calls me, it will be very rare that I answer on the first ring. I require considerable mental preparation to interact with people...even if they are my closest friends.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

Oh yes. Like some others mentioned, I see it as an intrusion (unless I was expecting the call ahead of time). I also feel as though I'm intruding on others by calling them.

I had a telemarketing job once and was absolutely fine with reciting my script to strangers over the phone all day long. The only draw back was that, if I wasn't paying attention, I tended to start personal conversations off with the same script. (You don't know how many times I answered my personal phone with "Thanks for calling ____, this is....oh crap, I'm not at work...")

 That happened to me, too. I used to work as a telemarketer many years ago.
