Deep down inside, I loathe it, even though the (heavily mimicked) emotions I express when I say it may suggest otherwise. I suck it up and go through the motions. because as soon as it's over with, we can talk about more interesting stuff.

Given a “tentative” diagnosis as a child as I needed services at school for what was later correctly discovered to be a major anxiety disorder.

This misdiagnosis caused me significant stress, which lessened upon finding out the truth about myself from my current and past long-term therapists - that I am an anxious and highly sensitive person but do not have an autism spectrum disorder.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

I sometimes respond with something that for me, I consider to be amusing

Someone: 'Hi, how are you doing?'
Me: 'I've hit rock bottom actually, can we go somewhere and discuss it'

With a deadpan delivery this sometimes leads to a bit of confusion so otherwise it will always be 'Not too bad, you?' I don't wait around for a response to 'you?' because I don't need to know.

Part of my job is talking to paying customers on the phone.
They almost always begin by saying "how are you?"

I always answer "I'm fine; how are you?"

It costs nothing to be polite and besides it would be seen as odd if I didn't reply in such a way.

Yes; as an Aspie I see the silly nonesense of it all but would rather comform that be seen as odd in their eyes..
After all these people are paying my salary indirectly so why not make the effort.

For me is a case of egocentrism and narcissism.
I don't say "hi", "hello", "good morning", "good bye".
I don't want to accept the existence of the others.

I hate "What's up?" even more.
