Unfortunately, that is the botanical name of the plant. For the sake of clarity, there really is no other way around that. If someone said let's test pot on kids, I see the visual... babystrollers around a hooka. Unfortunately, so much is publically known about this demon plant that nothing about it can be discussed without tweaking someone's illegal-druggie radar.

If I spoke about clinical trials involving Datura - it probably wouldn't tweak anybody's radar. If I said I'm testing J-weed at a rave... whole other meaning... (NOT that datura is a good candidate for trial anything... )

okay... so how do they explore the use of cannabis for children without including children in the process? :?

I already explained how potential effects could be logically guessed. I'm not concerned about whatever method they use to administer the drug there is no justification for using children when the biological differences between adults and children are so well accounted for.

Children have a lower density of CB1 receptors compared to adults but still have plenty of CB2 receptors. This means that children suffer less side effects from an equivalent dose whist still getting the therapeutic benefits from the chemicals.

Very reassuring if you need to worm your child using 'heroic' doses of cannabis oil, as was a common practice last century.

Also a relief to Dr Lester Grinspoon who treated his own autistic child with cannabis when the child was sadly dying from cancer. It's worth googling his works.

It could be a little scary if a child was misdiagnosed and was suffering from schizophrenia. Studies show cannabis has a negative impact on the condition of schizophrenia. The Doctor that treated his own child probably had some assurance that schizophrenia wasn't involved, but at one point many people with autism were wrongly diagnosed with schizophrenia, the opposite could also be true in some cases, today.

I'm drawing people's attention to the article and asking for opinion, I don't work for UF4A or Cannabis Science Inc.

Cannabis for Autism is my fan page, I sell yoga, not pot nor autism services!

Fair 'nuff. Just telling you what it looks like. Looks can be deceiving.

IMHO, the whole idea is just plain stupid.

And I'm speaking from personal experience. Pot was the absolute WORST thing I ever did to "treat" my problems. All it did was make them all worse.

Doing FAR better now that I've quit. And I did it for fifteen years. Now it's been twenty without. Going back to it would be the dumbest thing I can possibly think of.

Well what you think the same things work for everyone? not everyone reacts well to cannabis......but there are a lot of people who do.

Just out of curiosity how does it make you feel. When I was young people always talked about how it made them high. For me I couldn't enjoy the taste food like I normally would and felt numb inside like a zombie. The other thing was perception of time was slowed down for me to the point of when the thought of when am I ever going to get to that stop sign when I was driving. I tried it a few times; wasn't for me. I was surrounded by people that couldn't live without it.

On the other hand I have a cousin with Aspergers that has been smoking it all of his life. He is a musician and pretty laid back for someone that has Aspergers; it seems to have a calming effect for him. He is doing very well for himself, so I can't discount this notion that it might have some therapeutic effect for some that have Autism.

And as far as intelligence goes, it doesn't seem to have dimmed the lights for Bill Maher too much.

I notice that when I smoke weed I will sometimes get flashes of social insights which then last on and have real impacts on my life when I'm sober.

Although making socializing easier while on weed is a little more random. Sometimes it does, other times I get so sucked into some interesting idea I can't socialize much. Ironically sometimes my social insights get in the way of socialization at the moment but then help me out later on when I'm applying them. It was on weed that I realized I could alter people's perceptions of me retroactively(i.e. after saying something awkward say something else that changes its meaning so they'll think "that was weird." Then, I say the next thing, and they think "oh that's what he meant.")

It's also a major anxiety-killer and has helped me deal with that both short-term and long-term.

My problem with "treating" Asperger's with pot or anything is that first someone (a doctor) must say to you that "you have a problem."

And you have to agree that you have a problem, and "treatments" could help. Then you have to take the medicine and come back. Then the doctor will go over the various problems he and you think you have, and how has the medicine helped. This procedure can go on for your whole life. You with your problems, and the doctor with his medicines, and office visits.

I find the study interesting. If legitimate studies are being done (which they are) and consistently producing positive results (which they are) then why is it so hard to accept that marijuana is a viable option as treatment for certain conditions? I'm all for approaching this the right way and making sure that it can be dispensed in a feasible manner but whats with the stigma? If you never see yourself trying marijuana fine. But don't let it not help others that it CAN help ya know?

Hmm its hard to describe how exactly it makes me feel......but basically it has calming effects and the euphoria is also quite pleasant. It also seems to decrease the depression and anxiety. It also makes social interaction much easier and not quite so intimidating. But yeah the exact effects depend on the type of weed it does vary quite a bit. But yeah I also don't think it has any effect on intelligence.

Here is the company that is helping UCI with the research:

http://www.cannabisscience.com/news-a-m ... utism.html

and this is the UK equivalent who will hopefully will look into it also:

http://www.gwpharm.com/product-pipeline.aspx

As you can see they have 'Psychiatric Illness' at the pre-clinical stage.

Here is Robert Melamede Ph.D., Cannabis Science Inc., President & CEO saying that cannabis is a "miracle" drug, and that it cures cancer... and ALS and neuropathy. The video is from 2006

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., (CRWENEWSWIRE) -06/28/10- Cannabis Science, Inc. (OTCBB:CBIS), a pioneering U.S. biotech company developing pharmaceutical cannabis products, reports an important milestone for the continued validation of medical cannabis, as UK-based GW Pharmaceuticals (http://gwpharm.com/) receives $15 million milestone payment from Bayer. http://newjerseymedicalmarijuanaseeds.i ... -melamede/

The other Dr associated with UF4A ... Dr. Rebecca Hedrick M.D is a child psychiatrist.

So pot cures cancer, ALS, Alzheimers, neuropathy, "Pain, arthritic conditions, migraine headaches, anxiety, epileptic seizures, insomnia, loss of appetite, GERD (chronic heartburn), nausea, glaucoma, AIDS wasting syndrome, depression, bipolar disorder (particularly depression-manic-normal), multiple sclerosis, menstrual cramps, Parkinson's, trigeminal neuralgia (tic douloureux), high blood pressure, irritable bowel syndrome, and bladder incontinence." ...and autism, and of course Asperger's.

They are on the stock market see here > http://www.4-traders.com/CANBS-SCI-5293 ... -13583566/

Maybe you didn't mean to state cures; according to the article they are not claiming that cannabis cures any of these listed conditions; just that it is being used as a treatment for these condtions.

"Cures" is exaggeration... but pot seems like a treatment for well... just about everything. Pot is worth a try?... It could help? I wonder how it works for baldness?

Sorry, my Aspie is showing, went right over my head.

I bet it could help baldness because there is evidence that cannabis decreases androgen levels in men. Interesting, research indicates nicotine increases testosterone levels.

The whole cannabis initiative may be a conspiracy by the matriarchal left to emasculate the male population. We can add that in with "the pill" conspiracy that does the same.

But then it seems like just yesterday. ;)

I live in Oregon, and have my OMMP card.
