The obsessions and the ability to be alone and not bored.

I've used this little trick to attain very high income levels.
Sometimes I feel it's all a charade. But I can perform my functions as well or better than colleagues, so whatever inner strife this charade is causing stays internal.
Quickly learning and processing information to a degree NTs find unfathomable allows one to appear to have extensive experience, even if the knowledge is relatively new.
I also find intuited understandings a nice perk. Being able to acquire data A, and then data B, and process it to self generate data C-Z. I'm continually amazed by this, knowing things I've not actually encountered directly. Simply encountering sets of related data is often enough to distill large sums of further information. And as long as I "fact check" this type of information via testing or research, it's beneficial. And automatic, requiring no effort.

Maybe that is my point. Learning is so fluid and natural. I see so many people struggle, or force themselves. They get frustrated and give up. I've never had to experience that, I've never encountered information beyond understanding. It's a wonderful gift and would not trade it for anything, ever.

i like this thread & agree with most of it.

after having had some young nephews-in-law over for the weekend, who were incessantly tormented by boredom when not actually being stimulated, i realized this has never been the case with me. i've always had plenty going on inside my head, even when forced to wait for hours. but i take this for granted, & am not enough reminded this is something that i should be grateful for.

so, while the immediate environment bothers me in other ways (chiefly noise & smells), i can't ever say i've minded it being still & quiet.

I like the fact that I never get bored because I'm always engaging in things that relate to my current obsessions.

I'm a lot more interesting than most people...I've only realized this recently though

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Agreed. Once, I thought I finally knew how to fit in. That was when I finally realized that I'd rather stand out.

I am able to knuckle down, (a new phrase I have learned and love using!! ) and collect incredible amounts of information on the weirdest things.

Not a day goes bay when I don't contemplate the awesomeness of Pokemon type match-ups, or the field of string theory, a recent interest of mine. I just love how they need to make a lot of different and unproven dimensions to allow string theory to work... also, I was wondering the other day that if we could somehow convert the particles that make up our bodies into different types of particles, then we could occupy the same space as a solid object, which could be converted into another type of particle, thus allowing us to walk through walls. . It made me laugh, but my mum is still skeptical.

Aaaaanyway, there. I love being an Aspie because I get to obsess over things! :)

This place!
But there's nothing about being an aspie itself that I would say is positive.

Probably the compassion that it's given me for other people.

Paradoxical, right? =)

I'm glad I'm an aspie because this means I don't hide who I am or compromise myself to base my identity on whether or not men want to sleep with me. In fact, I'm blissfully unaware if any men even want to sleep with me most of the time, including my own husband. There's probably not a lot of men who like me because I don't agree with everything they say or act stupid but I'm not really observant enough to know unless they tell me outright. It's pretty sweet. :D

Im extremely analytical: I am able to see and analyze things from angles which others cant see start to see. I am able to remove the inbedded societal pressure and biases which people were raised it and really break everything down. I was previously oblivious to that social pressure. Im only starting to see things at an age where my brain is developed enough to question and analyze whats really happening.

Im extremely unique, Im literally one in several thousand. This 1 however is a mixed bag, sometimes its so hard to relate to people because I am so different. aspie + conflicting personality types + a ton to quirks + a bag full of emotional problems + an intellectual scientist + nonconformist = me

Thank you for posting this question hale bopp :o)

I'm new to the site and the idea that I could have Aspergers -but it feels right.
I guess I like the inability to be bored, can always be awed by nature, not worrying about fitting in (well, I usually don't worry)...unlike my lovely niece that feels her world will crash around her if she doesn't get the Nintendo DSI xl (or something like that) like "all" the other kids in her class.

Now that I get me, I love me.

A bit like the last poster - not having to care about 'keeping up with the Joneses'. In other words, I don't want the latest fashions, spray tan, haircut every 6 weeks, new home furnishings, holiday in Disneyland (my idea of Hell), birthday parties for my daughter. Thankfully, my daughter (also probably Aspie) doesn't want any of the things most other girls her age want either. All she wanted from Santa was a Doctor Who sonic screwdriver and was a bit annoyed when she saw the other stuff.

Without it, I would have very little personality.

There are times when I feel this way, but... maybe having Asperger's just brings out your personality (yet sometimes hides it). I'm hoping this identity crisis thing doesn't last forever (mine). I signed up for livingsocial recently- hoping to find things that I'm interested in or at least have fun trying.
